St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets
St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets: A Novel | Annie England Noblin
12 posts | 9 read | 10 to read
If you love Susan Mallery and Jill Shalvis, you wont want to miss this new novel of second chances, dogs, and knitting, from the author of Pupcakes and Sit! Stay! Speak! Laid off, cheated on, mugged: what else can go wrong in Maeve Stephens life? So when she learns her birth mother has left her a house, a vintage VW Beetle, and a marauding cat, in the small town of Timber Creek, Washington, she packs up to discover the truth about her past. She arrives to the sight of a cheerful bulldog abandoned on her front porch, a reclusive but tempting author living next door, and a set of ready-made friends at the St. Francis Society for Wayward Pets, where women knit colorful sweaters for the dogs and cats in their care. But theres also an undercurrent of something that doesnt sit right with Maeve. Whats the secret (besides her!) that her mother had hidden? If Maeve is going to make Timber Creek her home, she must figure out where she fits in and unravel the truth about her past. But is she ready to be adopted againthis time, by an entire town?

I expected something different based on the cover photo, but I enjoyed this book. Quirky, small town characters meet your protagonist at a crossroads. I liked these people & living in Timber Creek might not be so bad (except for the cold). It didn't take a dark turn I expected (thankfully) & then took a different, unexpected turn. I kind of hoped for more along the "pets" front, but I enjoyed this read & look forward to trying this author again.

This was an adorable book and I'm really glad I found it! It has two of my absolute favorite things, dogs and knitting ♡

If you're looking for an easy-to-read, soft on the heart kind of book, pick this one!

📚📖 Happy Reading! 📖📚

Yes I admit I pick a book based on the cover. But honestly how could you not pick this one? I have an English Bulldog but am a lover of all dogs. I‘ve never read anything by this author but she just might have got a new fan.

I LOVE this author‘s books! I‘ve been so excited to read this one. It isn‘t quite as pet- or dog-centric as some of her other books, like Pupcakes, but still so good. Ms Noblin is great at weaving tougher topics into her stories while keeping them lighthearted and heartwarming and feel-good. There is a very lite romance in here, but the biggest thing about this story is the group of strong women that befriend the main character Maeve. #dogsoflitsy

A novel about Maeve whose biological mother gave her up for adoption, never responded to Maeve‘s overtures to get to know her, and surprisingly, after dying left her home, car, and cat to Maeve, this is a light book on a lot of difficult topics but it felt a little like an outline that needed more detail. I told my husband I wanted this book for Valentine‘s Day and he remembered! I might have told him numerous times, sent him pictures of it, tagged him in posts where I mentioned it, and showed it to him at the bookstore but, you know, none of that offers any guarantees. He remembered. That‘s what matters!

Did you get any new books today?

So I complained earlier in the week about a continuity error in the #ARC of this book & that still bugs me but I ended up liking this book more than a so-so & I am going to assume the issue was fixed in the final edition & go with a pick. Good balance of humor & poignancy & although not as many pets as the title & cover would imply, there are pets in sweaters & the ladies who lo knit them. Some darker themes of abuse & domestic violence but not...

DebinHawaii ...overwrought. Paired with sweet potato fries with two dipping sauces inspired by Three Sheets, the town bar & restaurant for my book tour review. Recipe/review link: http://kahakaikitchen.blogspot.com/2020/01/the-book-tour-stops-here-review-of-st... 5y

So, I know it‘s an uncorrected proof but the MC was asked to get Diet Coke at the grocery store for another character. Then it changes & she‘s dropping off chocolate Ensure to the nurse for the mother of the other character who said in an earlier chapter...that her mother DIED TWO SPRINGS AGO!😳There‘s a whole part about the MC looking at family pictures the nurse put out to help make the mother feel better. I hope they fixed it before publishing!

Megabooks That‘s terrible!! 5y
LeahBergen Huh?? 5y
DebinHawaii @Megabooks @LeahBergen At first I thought it was my cold medicine 😆but I went back & read it again & it was a change. After the scene of her talking to the mother‘s nurse, in a later chapter it went back to the mother being dead again. Bad continuity.🙄 5y

Today‘s soup is Mark Bittman‘s Lemony Red Lentil with Cilantro. I think it‘s good but I can‘t taste much 🤧🤒but it‘s low-effort, what I can taste is good & I ate a bowl between naps today & it hit the spot. What I didn‘t do today was read very much—my head is too stuffy however this cover of a book I am on a book tour for the week after next makes me smile so I included it. 🐶❤️

This book isn't really about what you'd think from the title or cover. It's about a woman named Maeve who finally learns her origin story when her birth mother dies. There is a tiny bit of romance, a tiny bit of danger, and a tiny bit about pets. But the St Francis Society is pretty minor.
