A discarded book from the library, this has been on my shelf for years. It‘s a thoroughly immersive story from India. Sarika, a teenager and accomplished singer, falls in love with her music teacher, her guru. It is a story of music, of the passion and spirituality of Indian music, of jealousy, of a variety of societal pressures, and a dash of politics. The writing brought a vivid sense of place and I‘m missing it already.
