I very much enjoyed this early 20th century mystery about Heiress Peggy Batenburg.

THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD. I'm a huge fan of books set during early 1900s, particularly if they have a circus/carnival/vaudeville setting & thus Dreamland taking place at Coney Island was a huge draw for me. I loved that Peggy was atypical, reluctantly part of the elite class, & very much a fiercely independent woman. A rare type of character to encounter for the time period. Fans of Fiona Davis will love this one.

Coney Island. 1911. A rebellious heiress meets a poor, immigrant artist in a story that wraps romance, suspense, and murder around fascinating historical events ... taking on women's rights, the rich and working classes, and immigration. It was a blast being immersed in a terrible heat wave while the snow kept falling outside. #catsoflitsy

This is just a perfect read, historical fiction at its finest, with a strong female character, a murder mystery and a little love too. It highlights the vast difference between the wealthy, the less fortunate and those from a different country or culture, not only in monetary terms but in attitudes and behaviour. The writing is so descriptive, you can feel the sweltering heatwave and the family tensions are palpable….I love it and is a must read

Fantastic historical fiction from Pigeonhole, this is set in 1911 New York. Peggy Batternburg, an heiress, is forced by her family to stay at a hotel near Coney Island, where she meets a mysterious Serbian artist and witnesses the discovery of two bodies of murdered women. Full of mysteries, atmospheric descriptions and some great characters, I'm really enjoying this. Out on 16th January.

rubyslippersreads I have this ARC; sounds like I need to move it up my list. 5y

First book review of the year is on my blog at www.thespineview.com.

This book is a historical whodunit! Nancy Bilyeau, author of The Blue, has written another character drive tale about murder and privilege set on Coney Island in 1911. A young heiress unhappy with the family snd society restraints find love and adventure in the amusement park Dreamland.

wildwoodreads I‘m going to have to add this to my tbr! 5y
