For Her Own Good
For Her Own Good: Two Centuries of the Experts' Advice to Women | Barbara Ehrenreich, Deirdre English
3 posts | 2 read | 14 to read
An updated history of the experts, largely men, who have given professional advice to women makes the point that this advice has been unscientific, arrogant, biased, and generally self-serving and exposes the myths told to women in the name of science. Original.

Pickpick

Reading/studying feminism continues ...so glad I picked this topic for the year 🙌🏻💗

All three are needed to get a well rounded thought process- I am learning a ton.

Most of my #bookhaul from #BRLive last weekend! I got books from The Strand, Book Culture, the B&N at Union Square, and some freebies from the events themselves. I'm really looking forward to all of these! Also I didn't pay full price for a single one. 😀

The one on the bottom right I grabbed from @ScientistSam at the Litsy Meetup.

I'll post my others when I unpack. 😬😂

SarahSaysRead For Her Own Good looks so great and I have it from the library right now but will probably have to return it unread 😔 7y
BookishFeminist @SarahSaysRead You can always check if back out! I happened on it at B&N and grabbed it. I've been a long time fan of Barbara Ehrenreich so I'm looking forward to it. 7y
[DELETED] 3560995899 What is the one on the bottom left that looks like an old-school Penguin? And I love Book Culture and Strand! I used to live around the corner from the Book Culture on 112th. And the $3 galleys at Strand were my jam. 😞 7y
Bibliogirl I've had The Natural Way of Things sitting in my TBR pile since it won the Stellar Prize. I can't quite bring myself to read it, as I know it'll be a tough one. 7y
BookishFeminist @Jaime13 It's the new Orange Edition of Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko! I posted the cover of it up-close earlier this week if you want to see it. :) When I stay in NYC I'm only a few blocks from Book Culture, so I love hitting it up. I'd miss it too! (edited) 7y
BookishFeminist @Bibliogirl Yea I hear you. I may need to wait a while too, but I'm glad I bought it. :) I've had it on my list of books to buy for a while now! 7y
ScientistSam Hope you enjoy it! Definitely a different read from what I thought it would be - much more sci fi mystery - but enjoyable. 7y
Gleefulreader That is a great book haul! 7y
