A Match Made for Murder
A Match Made for Murder | Iona Whishaw
5 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
It's November, and Lane and Darling have escaped the chilly autumn in the Kootenays for a honeymoon at the posh and romantic Santa Cruz Inn in sunny Tucson, Arizona. But despite her very best intentions to relax, soon after their arrival Lane's plans to spend the holiday poolside with a good mystery are interrupted by gunfire. One of the hotel's wealthy guests has been shot point blank and Lane is second on the scene. Though Lane and Darling attempt to distance themselves from the investigation, the longer they stay at the Santa Cruz Inn, the deeper they are drawn into a web of suspects and bystanders, and a collection of seemingly perfect marriages fraught with jealousy and violence. The situation threatens first their honeymoon and then their lives when Lane puts herself directly in the sights of local criminals who will stop at nothing to get what they want. Back in Nelson, Sergeant Ames has been left in charge of the department during Darling's absence. As he investigates a case of vandalism at the Van Eyck garage, it seems to lead directly to the death of the suspected vandal himself. Working with Constable Terrell, the new recruit, to piece together what happened in this strange and unsettling murder, Ames finds his romantic interest in mechanic Tina Van Eyck creates complications that are more than awkward; they could be deadly. Fans of Maisie Dobbs and the Kopp sisters will delight in the latest Lane Winslow, a study of matrimony and mirage in the American Southwest.

Week 1 for #winterreadathon

I‘ve read 3 books and bailed on 3 books. (One not shown)

If you can tell, for some reason, I‘m not in the mood for cheesy holiday romances this year. Not sure why. Just want books with more substance.

I also bailed on Mistletoe & Mr. Right, which is one of my #RollDecember books.

DieAReader 🥳🥳🥳Great job with everything! Reading something you‘re not “into” at the moment just makes reading a slog & no fun so, good choice on the bails. More enjoyable reads await you on #MountTBR I bet🤓📚♥️ 2y
Andrew65 That;s great, well done 🎄🎄🎄 Christmas books are often a hot or a miss with little ground in between, best to only progress with books you are enjoying. 2y
julesG Not all cheesy Christmas romances are good cheesy Christmas romances. I'm struggling with Nick&Noel and I'm struggling with Meet Cute too. 2y
Laughterhp @julesG That‘s very true! I really enjoyed Royal Holiday! Which was also a holiday romance but with MCs in their 50s! 2y
julesG I really need to read one of her books. Moving them up towards the tip of #MountTBR 2y

This is the 7th book in the Lane Winslow series. This one Darling and Lane are on their honeymoon in Arizona. They of course get wrapped up in solving a murder, Lane gets kidnapped and helps save an abused woman. Back in Canada Ames is solving a crime on his own, newly promoted.

I love this series! Especially on audio.

These are the 3 books I have lined up to read next. I'm thinking I'll hold off on The Convert right now and read something a little lighter first.

The Authenticity Project is our book club pick for our May meeting. I'm wondering if we'll even be able to meet in person at that time? 😔
