I have seen a lot of readers posting their praise for Sara Paretsky‘s books and decided to give her a try. She writes a series of books based on a woman private detective, V.I. Warshawki, set in Chicago. She is a tough detective and quite sharp at her detecting skills. I enjoyed Indemnity Only, but I didn‘t love it as I hoped.

I was blown away by this series when I first read it in the 90‘s so I thought I‘d give it a re-read this year. I still like VI and her tough as nails crime fighting ways. #AwesomeApril book 1/6 @Andrew65

1. The V I Warshawski series is pretty good, though I think she lost the thread a little with later installments.

#20Series20Days. DAY TWELVE

I voraciously read this series featuring tough as nails Chicago PI V. I. Warshawski in the ‘90s. The books are reminiscent of classic hard boiled crime fiction but with a left leaning, feminist, kick-ass female detective set in contemporary times. I need get back to this series, maybe even re-read a few of the earlier books to refresh my memory.😀

In the classic hard-boiled detective tradition, with corruption all around, VI Warshawski must solve the murder of a young university of Chicago student. Particularly fun if you know Chicago well. It read a bit slow for a book that was mostly action and some of the details about who a public defender represents were off...but it was nice to see a woman portrayed as the tough PI who could hold her own against mobsters and the old boys club.

My summer reading books just arrived and I am soooo excited to dig in...

This is another series that I read for a while and eventually drifted away. The mysteries were fine, but I think I just got tired of them. Good start to the series though with this one. #Illinois #50states

I recently bought this for $2. Bargain!
After reading it I'll pass it on to my nana & her craft group. I donate a box of books for them to read every few months

I may start going by my initials just so I can use this response. I'm also enjoying the description of Chicago in July, which is something I would never actually say while in Chicago in July.

V. I. Warshawski is like Kinsey Milhone, only sexually harassed on constantly. No seriously. On every. Single. Page. I like the grittiness of the story, but I simply don't have the energy to endure the harassment that's slung Viv's way. I'll try this later.

Started my post-Thanksgiving readathon of the V.I. Warshawski series by Sara Paretsky. Good first in series, but I'm looking forward to getting to know V.I. better in future installments. P.I. novels are so focused on what the P.I. find out that it takes awhile to get a handle on them!
