This is the definition of a smart surprising thriller. I had whiplash from all the twists and turns. I exclaimed out loud several times. “No way”s “Omg”s and “Oooohhh”s. Deliciously devious. Intelligently written. I would highly recommend it. And now I‘m off to find more of his books.

We went to dirt track sprint car races Saturday and there was a little free library. My husband just sighed and said make it quick 😂 Turns out I grabbed books 1,2,4 of this cozy series, so guess we‘re going back this weekend 😆😆

Novel based on the true story of the Jane Collective, a group of women who provided abortions in Chicago in the 1970s before Roe v Wade. The story is interesting but the writing is rather flat —in places it reads more like a women‘s health pamphlet than realistic dialogue. Still a pick because the topic and the history are important—especially now.

One of the twistiest-turniest crime thrillers I‘ve ever read. Could not see what was coming next! This plot line took such a precise amount of finesse. Just when you think you have the story solved, you start finding yourself thinking “What?! HOW!” A very entertaining quick read.

When I was ten years old my then fifteen-year-old cousin was admitted to a lock-down facility for non-compliant youth because she would not treat her type 1 diabetes and seemed to be literally wasting away. I have no idea if her experience was anything like Jake‘s, but his story painfully illustrates how lonely and difficult that healing process must have been. I‘m grateful for this look into the psyche of someone living with anorexia nervosa.

Part 2 of the review: The kidnapping of not only escaped slaves but freed men and women who were sold in the south. It all happened in southern Illinois and so many, Illinoisans especially, know very little about this part of the states history. An interesting book.
