pickI‘m mad Kekla Magoon isn‘t Jason Reynolds famous. “The Summer of Styx Malone” is beautiful and funny and heartbreaking. Sullivan Jones kills it as the narrator. Highly recommend this lovely middle grade book!
pickIt's a middle-school book about two brothers who meet The Coolest Kid ever, and hatch a plan to trade their way up from a bag of fireworks to a moped. I loved the characters and the humor, and am looking forward to meeting the author next year at my employer's annual Children's Literature Festival.

pickA pretty good coming-of-age story. The age difference between the boys made such a friendship unlikely, but it was a cute story.
pickMy friend, a middle school librarian, recommended this good book. It starts with two brothers who trade their baby sister for a bag of fireworks. The story is told through the eyes of one of the brothers, who hero worships the cool and mysterious Styx Malone, overlooking his obvious lies and questionable morals in his admiration. This is a wonderful book for middle readers, well written, funny and a bit poignant.
