Both The One and The Passengers were five star reads for me so my expectations of Marrs‘s third speculative novel were sky high. I am so sorry they weren‘t met! This book, about four people carrying the state‘s secrets in their bodies, is good and clever but too many things just didn‘t feel right or were a bit off. I was left behind with some questions and a little disappointed. Still a light pick though.

In this electrifying near-future thriller, five strangers guard government secrets, but only four can be trusted.

The Minders by John Marrs is a good fit for those seeking a thrilling and thought-provoking read that explores the consequences of a world where secrets are currency and the truth is guarded by a select few.

I had previously read “The One” by this author, and this book ties in nicely with that. I have to give this author credit, he keeps you turning those pages!

I appreciate the originality of the premise and criticism of modern society. But there was too much going on for me: Hackers, use of DNA to store information and data in humans, DNA matchmaking, manipulative husbands, corrupt governments, conspiracy theories, murder…. Just too much for one book.

104 of 2021. #20in4 #readathon #littenlisten

Book 4: 5:37minutes

In the future, hacking of computers poses a threat to national security, so scientists develop a way of implanting information seeds into the brains of volunteers and declare them unhackable. However, a militant group called the Hacking Collective has other plans. Such a good thriller that will keep you engaged right until the end. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I LOVED this book and I‘m so glad I read this after reading The One, as he references it in this book. I could barely put it down reading each character‘s story lines and the twists and turns that came with each one. Can‘t wait to read his next book!

This book was pretty good! It wasn't as good as his previous, the passengers. But I still felt myself enjoying it, also the really short chapters and 5 different story lines still kept I fast pace when it was getting boring. I would defienfly recommend! I am going to give it 3/5 because there was a lot of twists that caught me off gaurd. But like a lot of my other reviews, things could have been. It out to keep it more interesting.

Unfortunately, The Minders is my least favourite John Marrs book so far, but he is still the king of unique concepts and I love that he is creating this little universe for his sci-fi/techno-thrillers! You should definitely read The One and The Passengers before picking this one up, as there are major spoilers for both of those books in this one. I felt like there was a lack of tension and shock in this book, as compared to the other two. 3⭐️
