I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

June recap - favorites in order from top to bottom, left to right. However, I tagged Olive because it stood out the most and I‘ve seen it hyped the least. As a woman in her mid-thirties, (and despite an amazing support system among my friends and family), the societal expectation of motherhood weighs on me. Sometimes, it‘s just good to hear from a narrator who pushes against all that pressure, and struggles to be a good friend on a different path.

I enjoyed listening to the lovely, British-toned voice of Sian Clifford as she narrated the story of Olive. With her clipped vowels, and tony modulation, it was easy to pay attention to the story – and even learn some new slang words and UK-ish phrases!

I listened to this book on Audible, and I was gripped. Such a great story about female friendships and the experience of women. Relatable and enjoyable from start to finish 💚

There‘s a lot in this little book! Motherhood, friendships, societal pressures. It certainly made me think about a lot of times in my life. Surprised how much I enjoyed this.
I also really miss my close friends at the moment, zoom calls and texts are not the same. Seen my 2 closest friends once since March. It sucks.

squirrelbrain Glad you liked it. Hopefully it won‘t be long before we can see our friends again... 4y

I loved listening to this one. Olive and her 3 friends have reached that stage in their lives where children might be on the agenda. Bea already has 3 kids, Cecily is a high-flying lawyer who struggles with PND and Isla is going through IVF. Olive struggles with the realisation that she doesn‘t want kids. Olive is not your typical ‘heroine‘ MC - she is full of flaws, as are her friends, so the novel feels completely realistic.

TrishB Just went to have a look on kindle store and apparently I brought it on 1 Nov 🤷‍♀️ 4y
Oryx I really liked this one too. I don't think there are that many books from the point of view of someone who doesn't want children, so that was quite refreshing - I thought it gave a good view of lots of different perspectives on motherhood 4y
Cathythoughts Sounds really good 👍🏻 4y

squirrelbrain Yes, that‘s what I liked about it too @Oryx - and, you‘re right, I think it‘s the first time I‘ve come across a novel written from that POV. 4y
squirrelbrain @TrishB - I do that all the time! 😁 4y

This was definitely one of my favorite reads of September. I loved Olive, such a great person. She deals with break-ups, friends that are all in different stages of lifes. It talks about the subject of not wanting to have children. Really good book! #books

"Olive" is a book that truly resonated with me. The leading lady is flawed, she's clumsy and she's still finding her feet in the adult world. A really enjoyable audiobook and a big 5 stars from me!

My full review is up on my blog now ?
