Two years after Emperor Augustus s bloody defeat of Mark Antony and Cleopatra, he triumphantly returns to Rome. To his only child, Julia, he brings an unlikely companion Selene, the daughter of the conquered Egyptian queen and her lover.Under the watchful eye of Augustus s wife, Livia, Selene struggles to accept her new home among her parents enemies. Bound together by kinship and spilled blood, these three women Livia, Selene, and Julia navigate the dangerous world of Rome s ruling elite, their every move a political strategy, their most intimate decisions in the emperor s hands.Always suppressing their own desires for the good of Rome, each must fulfill her role. For astute Livia, this means unwavering fidelity to her all-powerful husband; for sensual Julia, surrender to an arranged marriage and denial of her craving for love and the pleasures of the flesh; for orphaned Selene, choosing between loyalty to her family s killers and her wish for revenge. Can they survive Rome s deadly intrigues, or will they be swept away by the perilous currents of the world s most powerful empire?"

A lovely light, invigorating read (along with prequel: I am Livia) style of writing is really easy to follow and keeps you captivated. A great story told through the perspective of 3 women central in Augustus Caesar‘s life. I felt the characters and their feelings and was able to explore their decisions which i always appreciate in any book. Recommended!

4 ⭐ this is the sequel to "I am Livia". It continues the story of Livia(Augustus wife) and also Selene (Cleopatra's daughter) and Julia (Cesaer Augustus' daughter. Each chapter is one of their voices. I really enjoyed! The intrigue and politics of that time, makes one think of present, if we take our liberty for granted.

Cathythoughts Nice review.... must investigate & find the first book 👍🏻♥️ 5y

I love tales steeped in history. Roman history was primarily recorded by men w/ political motivations, so many exact events are debated still today. The author is phenomenal at sticking close w/ history, but adding a believable account of what inspired events.

This is the 2nd book in a series, I never did read the 1st. This novel stands on its own nicely. I would recommend for those who enjoy Roman historical fiction & don't mind romantic plots.

TheBookKeepers This story starts w/ the celebration in Rome following the conquering of Cleopatra & Mark Antony, w/ their daughter &son being paraded in Chains by Tavius Caesar. The reader experiences the POV from this daughter (Selene), the wife of Tavius (Livia), & Tavius‘s only true daughter (Julia). 5y
Crazeedi This keeps popping up like I should read it, now I must look for it. Maybe find the first one too 5y
