The Loving Husband
The Loving Husband | Christobel Kent
Can you ever truly know the one you love? Fran Hall and her husband Nathan live in a farmhouse on the edge of the Fens with their two children. One February night, when Fran is woken by her baby, she finds the bed empty beside her and Nathan gone. Searching the house for him she makes a devastating discovery. As Fran finds herself under intense police scrutiny, she and her two small children become more isolated as she starts to doubt whether or not she really knew Nathan. Was he really the loving husband that Fran had trusted him to be? As police suspicion grows the questions for Fran begin to mount. Is there something that she is hiding from them - something that she has kept hidden from everyone, including her husband? From the author of The Crooked House comes another stunning psychological thriller about family, secrets and the lies we tell ourselves. For fans of Gillian Flynn and SJ Watson, The Loving Husband draws readers into a marriage where nothing is as it seems.

In theory, this book has an interesting storyline and I wanted to see how it developed. However, the sentence structure is really weird and the story bounces about a bit. This made the story hard to follow and I ended up thinking meh. Dissatisfied with the ending, which wasn't as revealing as it should have been.

Quite an intriguing psychological thriller, even though I wasn't particularly enamoured of the writing style. It seemed a little disjointed but I wondered whether it was trying to depict the main character's agitated state of mind. Nevertheless, I found it a compelling mystery. I was eager to read on to find out how it ended. Plenty of twists and turns to keep me on my toes and a fair few dysfunctional characters to keep me interested.

3.5*

Something about this one just didn't sit quite right with me. I had real issues sorting out the geography in my head (meant to be isolated but there seem to be neighbours popping over every few hours!) and the ending like a totally contrived misdirection before revealing the REAL plot twist, which left me a bit lost! Mostly I was left wondering how Fran had been so blond to everything... but maybe that was the point...

Took me a while to get through this one. I really wanted to enjoy it but I'm not too sure how I feel. The ending didn't live up to expectation. A disappointing 60 specs points 🤓

I just need to take a minute to brag on this man right here: He has been the most amazing caretaker that I could ever ask for. He has done absolutely everything that I have needed, and more, since we got home (even when I try to do it myself, because I don't want to ask). He has not complained once, or acted like it has been a burden to him. I could not ask for a better husband. I am one lucky girl! #besthubbyintheworld #bestnurseever

I am not going to lie, I am not entity sure what happened in this book....I am hoping that my brain will piece it together in time. Dark and full of unpredictable twists. Just when I thought I had it - bam I loose it.

This book sadly didn't grab me at all. I was more glad about getting to the end than finding out what actually happened to the husband. Sadly not for me.
