I loved this book! Every character had substance and growth all in the context of a cross-country road trip. This one‘s on track to be my favorite book of the year. ❤️📖❤️

Stuck in the middle of Winter desperately seeking some #Warmth. The title of this book seemed very appropriate. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who hasn‘t read it. I loved it.

There‘s 9 days left in June and I still have these 18 books on my l radar for #BigJuneReadathon …do you think I can get through them all?

Have you read any of these books? If so, what are your thoughts? 💖

PageShifter I have read Vicious and The Secret History and liked them both! 3y
BarbaraJean I LOVED The Secret History! 3y
Booknerd222 I‘ve heard The Heart Principal is super good but super sad! 3y

TheAromaofBooks I enjoyed The Summer Seekers, but thought You Have a Match tried to do too much - the whole story would have been better without the (YA) romance, I thought. It really distracted from some of the other elements of the story that I found more interesting. 3y
bookishdawg Grave Reservations was fun! Loved the Seattle setting 😊 3y
marleed I really liked His only Wife. I do think the Goldfinch would be a challenge to speed read - or wait, same parts drag so maybe speed reading would make it more enjoyable! 3y

My choice for #August for #12Booksof2021 was difficult as was my best reading month of the year and any four of these could have won, and all from different genres.

Summer Seekers just wins, but notable mentions for the other 3 #8thBookof2021

The journey of a lifetime happens for 80 year old Kathleen. She hires young Martha to drive her on Route 66 from Chicago to California. Kathleen‘s daughter, Liza, isn‘t so sure that Martha should be the one to drive her mother across those miles as she is a perfect stranger. Liza is overwhelmed by her husband and kids and life. I loved the characters and could totally picture everything.

Book 4 of #AwesomeAugust Readathon finished.

My first Sarah Morgan, but after this book will definitely not be my last. Loved this book, the characters, the scenario and the bit of romance thrown in there too. A great Summer read. An 80 year old woman travels Route 66 following an intruder in her house. Great story lines for her, her young driver and her daughter. Great journeys of discovery for them all. Strongly recommended.

Tove_Reads Sounds like an American Fredrik Backman. 3y
Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Sarah is British, but I know what you mean. 3y

New book started for #AwesomeAugust

I like the sound of this one. An 80 year old woman goes on a voyage of discovery travelling Route 66 following an intruder breaking into her house. Alongside this we have the story of her young driving companion and her daughter. #SummerSeekers

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday for #LitsySummerCamp - I ended up working over 9 hours!! My limited internet time was spent on #BookSpin shenanigans haha The QOTD was about the weather at camp & I can't complain, despite being out in it all day!! Absolutely gorgeous yesterday, a morning in the 50s & highs in the upper 70s, low humidity - days we dream of in August, come true!!

I also finished the tagged book the other day with some ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) mixed feelings - I enjoyed it overall, but found it rather depressing that Kathleen was in her EIGHTIES & only just now realizing the need to tell her daughter that she loves her?? It felt like Morgan wanted the reader to excuse Kathleen's complete lack of mothering by saying things like “no one would have objected if she'd been a man“ and - first, yes I would have because she was a terrible parent & I don't like men being terrible ⬇ 3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) parents either, and secondly - I mean, is that the best you can do? “It's okay for me to be a terrible parent because men are allowed to be terrible parents“??? Wow, great logic! 🙄

ANYWAY there was still a lot to enjoy here & I did appreciate that Liza came to realize that her marital problems were shared between her AND her husband, not just all his fault. Just because you've been married a long time doesn't mean you can expect your ⬇
3y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) spouse to read your mind, especially if you keep telling him you're fine; everything is fine.

This is one of those novels that romance lovers probably won't find romance-y enough & novel readers will find too romance-y, but for me it was a soft pick as I rather liked the blend.

And now I'm off to pick more blackberries!! 😂

Three women-3 walks of life with private crossroads-one unforgettable summer journey! Kathleen is 80 and plans a final adventure like she did when she was the star of a travel show, but needs a driver. Martha, young, unemployed, and troubled by a recent divorce is desperate for a change even if it means driving Route 66, but she barely passed her drivers permit in England! Liza, Kathleen‘s daughter, stressed with family and needs a change NOW!

The road trip across the US on Route 66 was a big part of the story but not the biggest part. These three women all had to find themselves after being overwhelmed and unappreciated for far too long. I especially feel connected to Liza, the mother/wife of a very busy family: she felt overlooked and invisible. I have felt this way at times in my life too (we all do!) and I appreciate journey Liza took.
