Wet Dog! | Elise Broach

#WDNCW

We don‘t care that all four dogs ran around in the sprinklers with the kids in 103 degree weather. They had fun, and wet dog might keep company away so we can stay in our pjs. 🤣

Pickpick

This book is such a lovely way to begin my summer reading. 5/5⭐️ It‘s also the start of a challenge I‘ve set for myself, my #100DayProject2025 to mark the beginning of my endless vacation, aka forever freedom, aka Renaissance years, aka retirement! My 3 rules: that I own the book, that I journal about it, & that I post daily (to keep me honest 😅). My goal is to read 50 books in 100 days, which is a lofty goal for me!🤞🏽
Book 1/50
(July 2, 2025)

PurpleyPumpkin @MemoirsForMe Donna, I am finally going to put your lovely reading journal to good use! There‘s room for exactly 50 reviews. 😉 3d
Deblovestoread Congrats on your retirement 🎉 3d
JamieArc Congrats and good luck on your reading venture! 3d

MemoirsForMe What a great way to celebrate your retirement and reduce your TBR list! 🙌🏻 Just make sure none of your 50 reads are as long as Anna K. 😉 3d
MemoirsForMe Yay! So glad the journal will help you with this cool challenge! 🤓📝 3d
kspenmoll Wonderful way to celebrate your retirement!! 3d
TheLudicReader Congrats on your retirement! I am thinking about going in June 2026 and picture it as one long, swoony reading sprint. 2d
PurpleyPumpkin @MemoirsForMe Exactly! I‘ve always wanted the opportunity to read my days away so thought this would be the perfect way to start that journey. And I‘m taking your advice, I‘m avoiding super chunksters!😅 2d
PurpleyPumpkin @kspenmoll @TheLudicReader Thanks so much! I‘m very happy to be able to spend more time reading. ☺️ 2d
PurpleyPumpkin I‘m with you @TheLudicReader, a lengthy reading sprint is definitely in order. Love your plan!💜 2d
Sace Congratulations on your retirement! 2d
PurpleyPumpkin @Sace Aww thank you!💜 2d
Caryl I love this! 💖 Congratulations!!🎉 1d
PurpleyPumpkin Thanks very much @Caryl!💜 1d

I really really disliked this book, so I'm glad it at least filled a prompt!

Little rich kids and their hateful family gather on a private island and *waves hands* twisty blahblah I really don't care because the only likeable characters are the dogs.

@julieclair #FictionalTraveler

Texreader Tell it like it is!! Great review 3d
Lauredhel @Texreader haha I always do! 3d
julieclair 😂😂 Excellent review! Crossing this one off my TBR list. 3d

rubyslippersreads The poor dogs! 3d
Ruthiella I hated that book too . 😅 3d
Lauredhel @julieclair a LOT of people love it and that's fine too! I think it probably works best as a teen's first twisty book. 3d
Lauredhel @rubyslippersreads yes I think that's part of why I hated it so much. Didn't find a single person who content-noted that even under a spoiler warning. 3d
Lauredhel Can I just also say that another thing I really hated is that the author repeatedly attempted to nod to class differences and the fact that the staff are people too, which I THOUGHT was leading up to at least one of these faceless island staff becoming a real character in the book? But no. 3d
Lauredhel Even the map of the island goes out of its way to have a separate Staff Dock and Family Dock. Does this matter or come up in the book? It does not. 3d

I‘ll be real. I barely dented this list. But it‘s not July and time to buckle down.

I hope you've enjoyed our #buddyreads 📚

This is an informal reading discussion for the tagged book. Please let us know your thoughts.

📢 I will post the discussion thread for A Wilder Way around late July, to give our 🇺🇸 readers a chance to catch up.

@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

Librarybelle I did enjoy this one—lots of descriptive passages that made me feel like I was on the island. There is also a solid relationship between Sophia and Mimi, though Sophia did drive me nuts at times! 5d

Bookwormjillk I have The Summer Book out from the library but as usual I am behind. I'll check back in when I finally get to it. 5d
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk thankfully, it's a short read. I hope you enjoy it x 5d
IriDas I really enjoyed this book. I loved that it was a series of self-contained chapters. The relationship between the girl and her grandmother was very real, nobody was the “font of wisdom” so to speak, they were both just fully human. My Alma mater has several of her books. I think I will have to check them out when school starts back. 5d
julieclair I adored The Summer Book! It was my only 5-star read in June. The relationship between grandmother and granddaughter was something truly special and loving. Even when they were angry with each other, they understood each other so well. 4d
AllDebooks @IriDas @julieclair so glad you both enjoyed it. The relationship between Sophia and her grandmother was very realistic. 4d
AllDebooks @Librarybelle Sophia was a handful at times. 😅 4d
