Suburban Dicks | Fabian Nicieza
11 posts | 10 read | 10 to read
One day, between soccer games, recitals, and trips to the local pool, a very pregnant Andie pulls into a gas station - and stumbles across a murder scene. Suddenly, former FBI profiler Andie is obsessed with the case, and back on the trail of a killer, this time with kids in tow. She soon crosses paths with disgraced local journalist Kenneth Lee, who also has everything to prove in solving the case. A string of unusual occurrences - and, eventually, body parts - surface around town, and Andie uncovers simmering racial tensions and a decades-old conspiracy.

Another Edgar award nominee and now one of my favorite books of the year. Richly drawn characters, great representation, small town politics, racial tensions and a murder or two. Written with a great sense of snark by the co-creator of Deadpool 😂

Mccall0113 I legit had to read that title twice. I‘m like, what group am I in. Lol 2y

When you get approved for a book on NetGalley not realizing that it is a sequel...I guess I better get started on book 1 first 😬🤔🤦‍♀️

There was a clear winner between Jan and Feb so I‘ve filled it in but Suburban Dicks was also great in a very different way. I‘m so interested to see what ends up coming out at the top this year!

7/22 This was a spare of the moment library borrow, I had never heard of it but I‘m so glad it caught my eye. It‘s a murder mystery but to be honest it was more about the characters for me then actually finding out what happened that made this one great. You don‘t often see heavily pregnant, exhausted mothers who miss their careers getting to be the smart, kick ass, humorous lead. I appreciated it. And it will be my #booked2021 #murdermystery 4⭐️

Cinfhen Yay!! Glad you discovered a new book/ author ♥️ 2y

I‘m not sure what made me download this one from the library but I very much identify with the heavily pregnant MC who is a mother but is also so much more (for once). I appreciate a women being shown as someone who can do other things and have other interests even when growing a human. It is doing a good job showing the frustrations of work/family balance (or lack there of) and being a Murder mystery too! Using for #roadtripUSA2022 #NewJersey

I‘m like ten pages into this recommended-by-a-patron pick, and I‘m already cackling. Exactly the continued balm my soul needs. #suburbandicks #fabiannicieza

Yey for Ruth! And yes, Jimmy John‘s founder did kill endangered African animals for fun (you can Google pics), but he claims he doesn‘t any more; more importantly, he no longer owns the shops: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2020/07/09/fact-check-jimmy-johns-...

“Watch out for ticks,” she called out. As they ignored her, she muttered, “Or get sucked dry of all your blood. Whatever.” A frustrated, suburban, very pregnant (once almost FBI profiler) mother of four gets involved in a murder. It had moments of funny, snarky humor and addressed issues of racism, privilege, and entrenched government, but I didn‘t love it. I thought there were plot holes and I just wished it was more. Might wow
someone else.
