@GingerAntics enthusiastic post about this book made me want to feature it today! 💕 Very sweet story, set in the early 1900's at the Alaska Yukon Pacific World's Fair. I loved the historical setting and characters (especially some of the secondary characters!) and really you just can't go wrong with any book written by Shaun David Hutchinson!

pickWhat an adorable story. I loved every second of it. The only thing that really made it YA was the ages of the characters. This is such a wonderfully thought out story and so beautifully executed. Hutchinson is truly a brilliant writer. I will definitely read more of his books.

I‘m off to bed, but this one is up next. This one is set in the past, so I‘m hoping we don‘t have a historical fiction land mine here. I have enjoyed everything else I‘ve read by Hutchinson, so fingers crossed on this one.

pickSet in Seattle at the 1909 World Fair, this is the love story of two magician's assistants- one a skilled pick pocketer and one who has a true magical ability. I really enjoyed tale, it's like Diviners light, and a bit like that one movie about the criminal magicians. And I loved, loved the setting and era.

pickI finished this book some time ago and did not write a review because I still had so many quotes I wanted to post. Well, I still have a lot of quotes I have not posted but I give up. You will have to read the book for those. The book was great and adorable with mention of serious topics, though, like sexism and kidnapping. Overall I give it: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
“One way or another,“ I said. “I'm going to free you.“
“Thank you, Jack. I don't know what I did to deserve your knidness, but thank you.“
“Kindness isn't something you should have to earn,“ I muttered.

Jack laughed to himself. “Evangeline and Lucia could cure him of that notion.“
“I want to help you, Wil.“
“Why?“ I asked. “ After everything I've told you, only a fool would want to get involved.“
“Then I'm a fool.“
“I thought you didn't believe in God,“ I said.
Jack shook his finger at me and laughed. “Still don't. But something brought us together. Maybe it was magic.“
“It wasn't magic,“ I said. “Teddy and I arrived by train.“
Jack snickered and covered his mouth as if attempting to hold back laughter. “That was terrible, Wil.“
“How?“ he asked, finally. “How is it possible?“
“God,“ I said.
“God's a con.“
“What are you doing here?“
“Well, since your hair's not long enough for me to climb, I figured I'd scale the tower wall.“
Teddy had unbalanced me, and I wished I'd had the chance to steady myself before seeing Jack. Especially since he also made me feel out of sort, but in an entirey different way.
“ Don't you trust me, Jack?“ Lucia asked, playing the ingénue.
“Only when you're sleeping“
