The Dolls' House
The Dolls' House | Rumer Godden

Tottie is a loving little wooden doll who lives with her family in a shoebox. The doll family are owned by two sisters, Emily and Charlotte, and are very happy, except for one thing: they long for a proper home. To their delight, their wish comes true when Emily and Charlotte fix up a Victorian dolls' house just for them. It's perfect. But then a new arrival starts to wreak havoc in the dolls' house. For Marchpane might be a wonderfully beautiful doll, but she is also terribly cruel. And she always gets her own way . . .

I love how Mary Engelbreit is continuing to draw scenes from her favorite childhood books. I love this one. More here:

Such a sweet book. The little doll family is happy until Marchpane, an obnoxious porcelain doll enters their midst. Wishing is the only way to communicate with their owners. It was fun and reminds me of Toy Story.

I couldn‘t really get into this one until about halfway through, and most of the characters were pretty annoying. However, once the trouble started, it was a pretty good story and actually pretty intense for a story about dolls. I kinda wish I had a tiny little wooden doll, tho. 😁 #childrensclassicread2020

I read this when I was little and had always remembered vague parts of the story; it was so lovely to read it again with Bella. We loved gentle and wise Tottie, fragile Mr Plantagenet, whimsical Birdie, and also loved to hate Marchpane! We‘ve also enjoyed Miss Happiness and Miss Flower and Little Plum by the same author, and Bella then plays with her doll‘s house for days afterwards. Perfect for age 6+ #raisingreaders

Centique I loved this too! Definitely one of my top 5 favourite kids books. You‘re making me want to read it again 😍 6y
JillR Read it again @Centique it‘s just as good! Although it is so short. I must have been quite young when I read it as I remember thinking it was very, very long! 6y
