In this magical romance from the New York Times bestselling author of The Wicked Deep, an illness cursing the land forces a teen girl astronomer to venture across the wilderness in search of the stars message that will, hopefully, save them all. If magic lives anywhere, its in the stars ????Vega has lived in the valley her whole lifeforbidden by her mother to leave the safety of its borders because of the unknown threats waiting for her in the wilds beyond. But after her mother dies, and Vega sees the fabled twin stars in the sky, its an omen she can no longer ignore, forcing her to leave the protective boundaries of the valley. But the outside world turns out to be much more terrifying than Vega could have imagined. People are gravely sickthey lose their eyesight and their hearing, just before they lose their lives. What Vega keeps to herself is that she is the Last Astronomera title carried from generation to generationand she is the only one who carries the knowledge of the stars. Knowledge that could hold the key to the cure. And so when locals spot the tattoo on Vegas neck in the shape of a constellationthe mark of an astronomerchaos erupts as the threats her mother warned her about become all too real. Fearing for her life, Vega is rescued by a girl named Cricket who leads her to Noah, a boy marked by his own mysterious tattoos. On the run from the men who are hunting her, Vega, Cricket, and Noah set out across the plains in search of the cure the stars speak of. But as the lines between friend and protector begin to blur, Vega must decide whether to safeguard the sacred knowledge of the astronomer. Or if she will risk everything to try to save them all.

Interesting storyline. The main character is known as the Last Astronomer, a title that has been carried throughout generations, and she is destined to find The Architect.
She is the only one who understands the knowledge of the stars that can possibly find a cure to the disease spreading throughout their world, and the Architect is the only one who can get her where she needs to go.

She has a tattoo on the back of her neck that she can't let anyone see... WHY IS SHE NOT WEARING A FREAKING SCARF!? Seriously, half the drama wouldn't have happened if she just wore a scarf. It's such a simple, stupid thing, and I'm really irritated at Earnshaw because this feels really lazy.

My Book of the Month box arrived today! 🎉🎉🎉 December is always such a fun month because we get the extra free book! 📚 I chose A Flicker in the Dark since it was the only one out of the finalists that I hadn't read yet! 😂 I'm excited for all of these! 💕📚💕 #botm

ShelleyBooksie I'm interested for your review on A Flicker In The Dark. It's everywhere and it was only a "meh" for me. 1y
Branwen @ShelleyBooksie Ooooh interesting! 🤔 I'm excited to start reading it and see if we end up feeling similarly about it! 💕📚 1y

Word on the street is that these are gonna be #BOTM picks in December. Neither really jumps out at me as a purchase (more the type I'd grab at the library). Sigh, I never seem to hit the jackpot for my birthday month 😬

What do you think about these two?

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick More and more I feel ambivalent about most of the monthly choices, including these two. 1y
JamieArc Neither of these interest me either. Fingers crossed for a choice that does 🤞🏻 1y
Jemgirl2014 Not really interested in either one either. I hope you get a good pick for your birthday! 🥳 1y
Breanne1 Unfortunately these two wouldn‘t be picks for me. Happy Birthday month!!! Fingers crossed some good ones get added for you to pick from. (edited) 1y
marleed I wonder if December is a challenge since fewer books seem to be published compared to the rest of the year. I‘m hoping their add-ons include books published earlier in the year. Last year they included Somebody‘s Daughter in Dec even though it was published earlier in the year. 1y
