A high-strung pastry chefs professional goals are interrupted by an unexpected career transition and the introduction of her wildly attractive nonbinary kitchen manager in this deliciously fresh and witty queer rom-com. Simone Larkspur is a perfectionist pastry expert with a dream job at The Discerning Chef, a venerable cookbook publisher in New York City. All she wants to do is create the perfect loaf of sourdough and develop recipes, but when The Discerning Chef decides to bring their brand into the 21st century by pivoting to video, Simone is thrust into the spotlight and finds herself failing at something for the first time in her life. To make matters worse, Simone has to deal with Ray Lyton, the new test kitchen manager, whose obnoxious cheer and outgoing personality are like oil to Simones water. When Ray accidentally becomes a viral YouTube sensation with a series of homebrewing videos, their eccentric editor in chief forces Simone to work alongside the chipper upstart or else risk her beloved job. But the more they work together, the more Simone realizes her heart may be softening like butter for Ray. Things get even more complicated when Ray comes out at work as nonbinary to mixed reactionsand Simone must choose between the career she fought so hard for and the person who just might take the cake (and her heart).

Really enjoyed this romance that I finished for Transgender Day of Visibility. It started a little slow, but by the end I couldn‘t help but really adore both Simone and Ray. I‘m totally looking forward to the 2nd book Chef‘s Choice that comes out in May. #transcharacter #nonbinarycharacter #queerreads

This is part of my #TimeMagazinesTop100ReadsOf2022 and the only “romance” on the list. It‘s a Queer romance and it does start off slow but when it finds it‘s rhythm this is a fun and sweet story. #bookspin #LittensLoveRomance @TheAromaofBooks

For me, this book took a minute to get into. I am not type- A nor a perfectionist, so I had a harder time relating to the main character. Loved the queer romance, the development of characters and it was enjoyable once I was able to get into it

#ARC The sales rep was right: I enjoyed this book so much I‘m almost mad about it. Simone‘s a reserved recipe researcher whose dream magazine job pivots to video. Ray is a sunshiney kitchen manager whose accidentally posted video becomes the mag‘s first hit- so they‘re paired up. Despite initial clashes, they become closer with believable conflicts and misunderstandings along the way. Simone‘s adjustment to Ray revealing they‘re nonbinary takes⬇️

akaGingerK a fair amount of page time, but she does her 101 flailing & her commenting on her difficulties swapping to the correct pronouns to her roommate not to Ray - and her roommate has established boundaries & compensation rates around emotional labor.
Conflict arises as they have differing reactions to a workplace more hostile than expected to Ray‘s coming out. But everyone deserving of a happy ending gets one - love, career, and all
