The Key to Deceit
The Key to Deceit: An Electra McDonnell Novel | Ashley Weaver
6 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
The second in the Electra McDonnell series from Edgar-nominated author Ashley Weaver, The Key to Deceit, is a delightful World War II mystery filled with spies, murder, romance, and wit. London, 1940. After years of stealing from the rich and giving to the poorwell, to themselves, anywayEllie McDonnell and her family have turned over a new leaf as they help the governments war effort. Its true that the straight-laced Major Ramsey didnt give them much choice, but still, Ellie must admit she doesnt miss breaking and entering as much as she might have thought. What she does miss is the challenge of unlocking an impossible code and the adrenaline rush that comes from being somewhere she shouldnt. So when Major Ramsey turns up unannounced with another job, she cant say no. A womans body has been found floating in the Thames, with a bracelet locked onto her wrist, and a cameo locket attached to it. Its clear this woman was involved in espionage, but whose side was she on? Who was she reporting to? And who wanted her dead?

Thanks for the tag!
1. Ashley Weaver, Beatriz Williams, Susan Meissner, Laura Hillenbrand, Tayari Jones
2. Probably historical fiction, but I can‘t choose one favorite. I‘ll go with Tiny Little Thing by Beatriz Williams for a favorite
3. I‘m pretty bad at completing series. I have managed to finish Ashley Weaver‘s first series, though, and I‘m caught up on her current one.

robinb @MadelineMcCrae The symbol before the book (A Peculiar Combination) shows up under the post as you‘re writing it. Does that make sense? 2y

First finish for #JubilantJuly. The second in the Electra McDonnell series. This continues Ellie‘s adventures with Major Ramsey and his intelligence unit. This time a female body has been found in the Thames with an intricate bracelet on her wrist. Ellie is called upon to get the bracelet off and open a small locket attached. I liked this one. It showed growth for Ellie, Felix and Major Ramsey. Looking forward to the next one.

Mollyanna @robinb Thanks for posting about this book. I didn‘t know book 2 had been released. 😊 2y

I love Ellie so much! Book 2 is another adventure of Ellie, the Major and her group of talented friends trying to stop the Germans during wartime. Another mystery with a good twist! #elliemcdonnell #electramcdonnell This book just came out this year, so we probably have a long wait until the next one. Sigh. 💕

This is book 2 of a mystery series set in 1940s London. Electra (Ellie) McDonnell is a young woman raised in a family of thieves and an expert locksmith. She and her Uncle Mick are apprehended and recruited by Major Ramsey, a straitlaced head of a covert war operation. In this installment, she is called upon to use her skills in tracking down and foiling a German espionage ring who are recruiting English citizens to photograph strategic 🔻

Ellie is a spunky, independent, and headstrong lead who is a pleasure to keep up with, and there are hints of a love triangle developing that promises to be interesting. There‘s also a well-fleshed out cast of supporting characters who are entertaining and keep the plots moving along behind the scenes. This was also an intriguing angle for a plot that I had never thought of or 🔻 (edited) 3y
robinb researched. If you‘re looking to find a new and entertaining historical mystery series, start with the initial A Peculiar Combination. I‘m glad I discovered it.
