This is enjoyable, female-forward historical fiction set in a time when men were definitely the center of the world. Lizzie Boylston is a widow, running a small farm outside Boston, and working as a midwife. But she wants to do more to help the Revolutionary War Patriots, so she steps out of the norm and takes big risks. She‘s a privileged woman, but also relatable. I also liked ⬇️

BarbaraTheBibliophage ⬆️ the subplot about her SIL, who rebels in a completely different way. Daynard also wrote her story, so maybe I‘ll give that a go. Note: this book fulfilled absolutely no prompts, which was kinda enjoyable as well. 🤪 3y

The author read this review and reached out to me. Sent me a corrected reprint copy. I read the book and liked it!

wanderinglynn That‘s really cool! 4y
ValerieAndBooks Awesome! Ugh that would really have bugged me also. Especially if it wasn‘t explained away in the book as an “alternative history” 😂 4y
mrsmarch @ValerieAndBooks It definitely wasn‘t supposed to be alt hist...she was very apologetic about it. 4y

Pickpick

This was an Amazon monthly pick for me. A historical fiction novel about a midwife struggling to maintain her farm and fit in with her neighbors after her husband‘s death fighting as a patriot.

At first I thought this might be attempting to be women‘s literature and it ended up being more chick lit with a historical basis and a touch of PG rated romance. It succeeds as the last two but would have fallen flat for me as the first.

A widowed midwife becomes friends with Abigail Adams. She soon finds herself trying to find a murderer and the ones plotting to assassinate John Adams. I enjoyed this book. It was definitely a change from the law novels I've been reading lately.

I really enjoyed this one. The American Revolution, espionage, midwifery and Abigail Adams....what more could I ask for. Look forward to the next installment on the series. But first In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen. #kindle #currentlyreading

So I recently started playing with Audible to see what my Prime membership gives me. Love the channels! I was going to read The Bees, but found the audiobook for The Midwife's Revolt in my list of books in Audible. So now I'm intrigued and thinking about reading AND LISTENING to that instead. Decisions, decisions!!! 🤓
