She's a reporter with a nose for trouble. But when the story is murder, will she end up above the fold or buried in the back?1948: Kingston, Canada-Charley Hall knows she's a better reporter than any man in the newsroom. Demoted to the women's page, her job on the city beat given to a returning soldier, she shifts her energy to locating her brother who disappeared after his latest bender. But as she uncovers the victim's murky past, tracking down the shooter could land the intrepid journalist in the obituaries. Can this gutsy gal prove her investigative skills and live to tell the tale?A Shot of Murder is the first book in the atmospheric Charley Hall historical mystery series. Mehso-so

#historicalmystery
It‘s 1948 in Canada & Charley Hall is frustrated by her demotion at a local newspaper from the city beat to the ladies news section. To add to her woes, her brother, never the same since his return from war, goes missing. In her hunt to find him she stumbles upon a dead body…I gave this a so-so because its treatment of social issues seems superficial,& its characters not well developed.Still I may give #2 a go. #serieslove2023

TheSpineView I am curious to see if book 2 is better. 💙📖📚📚📚 1y
Andrew65 Shame it wasn‘t better but looks interesting. Some series really shine on book 1 and can struggle to keep the standard up, others take at least a couple of books to really get going. So hopefully the next book will be better. Well done 🥳 1y
