The Sun and the Void | Gabriela Romero Lacruz
4 posts | 3 read | 7 to read
Set in a lush world inspired by the history and folklore of South America, discover this sweeping epic fantasy of colonialism and country, ancient magic, and a young woman's quest for belonging. When Reina arrives at Aguila Manor, her heart stolen from her chest, she's on the verge of death--until her estranged grandmother, a dark sorceress in the Don's employ, intervenes. Indebted to a woman she never knew, and smitten with the upper-caste daughter of the house, Celeste, Reina will do anything to earn-and keep-the family's favor. Even the bidding of the ancient god who speaks to her from the Manor's foundations. To save the woman she loves, Reina will have to defy the gods themselves, and become something she never could have imagined.

2.5/5 ⭐️ Disappointed in this Venezuelan-based folklore fantasy. It had so much potential and a really great world, but I think the author tried to do too much. It is the first in a series so maybe there will be more development later on
#FoodandLit Venezuela 🇻🇪

But Zola says hi! I'm behind on Litsy stuff as I'm just starting to feel better after getting sick with a cold that went to my chest and inflamed my asthma

Pickpick

I enjoyed the story. #Illumicrate 7/2023 subscription box. The Illumicrate edition is infinitely preferable to the above cover!

I loved hearing from an author writing from the heart of Venezuela.

Reina & Eva strike out on a dangerous quest with a desire to feel like they belong. There‘s dark malevolent gods, ancient forbidden magic & dangerous creatures of the night. Family plays an interesting role.

This is the #Illumicrate monthly sub box book for July.

The naked hardcover is pretty & it‘s signed. This is another book I haven‘t heard of but has intrigued me.

I also have matching bowls, coasters, pins, and a dinky cushion cover that I have no cushion for yet 😁

BiblioLitten Would love to see a pic of that haul! 🖤🤍💛 10mo
E.Bolhafner I skipped this month and tried to unskip but CS never got back to me. Sadness. I get confused because some boxes you are ordering 2 months out others a month 10mo

Branwen It's so breathtaking! 😱💕 10mo
RaeLovesToRead @E.Bolhafner I think you can still order a Night & Day box as a one off through the website 🤔 I get such FOMO so I doubt I'll be able to skip any 😅😅 10mo
RaeLovesToRead @BiblioLitten Normally I take a photo of the whole haul, but I already installed the bowls in the kitchen and the coasters elsewhere 🤣🤣 They are cute bowls 💕 Illumicrate merch is gradually taking over the kitchen! 10mo
E.Bolhafner @RaeLovesToRead I sent them a note via contact us form. I believe I skipped it because it is the first of a series? I despise cliff hangers with a passion. My son wrote me because of Divine Rivals being a cliff hanger--like the real cliff hanger where MC is in distress oh no! must read next book! oh no! Distress! It reminds me too much of those episodic silent movies and cartoons from my childhood and I abhor them. 10mo
