For the #URC2023 I am committing crimes against my own prompts and decided that a book with a how-to book *title* was close enough. Luke is just as much of a little shit as I expected and it was fun to watch him fuck around and find out. Joss and Gareth get more than just a cameo, so we get to see their HEA more than a decade on from the first book, a rare treat.

Faranae I wanted to tag on some historical notes: the average laborer or tradesman made about 40 to 50 pounds a year. Someone of Luke's class would get the salary he commands of Rufus after 15 or more years of service, though he's not asking for something entirely out of line.

Because there was no trained secretary at Stone, most of the recent documents are probably in Secretary Hand. Luke likely uses a variant of Copperplate for Rufus.

I actually managed to read a book this month! KJ Charles is really good at creating interesting plots to background the #romantsy and this is a particularly strong one with some classic gothic and treasure hunt elements and a cast of memorable characters. Very enjoyable.

Friends, KJ Charles delivers the gothic goods with A NOBLEMAN‘S GUIDE TO SEDUCING A SCOUNDREL. We‘ve got a crumbling ancestral home, a slew of unpleasant relations, a contested inheritance, a Dark Secret, a hidden treasure, and plenty of sneaking around in gloomy halls.

As per form, Charles tempers these gloriously OTT trappings with a strong human element. Her characters forge alliances and reach understandings by behaving like actual people ⬇️

xicanti instead of archetypes. They listen, they consider each other‘s context, and they come out in some rich and exciting places indeed. I had a fabulous time with them.

Audio-wise, I still find narrator Martyn Swain takes some odd pauses, but he compensates with a great variety of accents and a good sense of the drama of it all. I barely noticed the verbal pacing as I became immersed in the story.
