The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic
The Modern Girl's Guide to Magic | Linsey Hall

So here's the deal-I'm a magical disaster. A witch from a family of witches, and the only one whose magic blows up in her face. Which is why I came up with my rules... 1. Never get involved with magic 2. If you must get involved, do not enter a competition to win the biggest magical fortune in England 3. And definitely don't fall for Callan Hawthorne, the sexy billionaire mage who you've hated for years So how the heck do I end up in a situation that promises to break all those rules? It's the only way to save Seaside Spells, my family's magical potion shop. But it's cool. When I go back home to Charming Cove-a village of ancient pubs and foul-mouthed familiars-I will totally ignore Witch Weekly's Sexiest Man of the Year. I'll win the competition, and if I'm lucky, I won't turn myself into a toad in the process. This'll be fine. It'll all be fine. Riiiight.

This one has one of my favorite openers I've seen lately. LOL

"There were a lot of reasons that I shouldn't use my magic. One of those was the horrified bride now standing before me, with new magical jowls that made her look like Winston Churchill. And it was all my fault."

Really enjoyed this witchy book of discovering your true potential. Loved all the characters of Charming Cove and can‘t wait to check out the next one in the series!

#RushAThon #SeriesLove2023

Finished last week for a #CozyFantasyFellowship readalong on #Fable although I confess I read ahead & didn‘t do much with the discussion posts. A quick & fun witchy rom-com read, nothing stands out as spectacular, but I liked the characters, Cornish coastal town setting & garden magic competition story well enough that I‘ll grab the 2nd book in the Charming Cove series (on Kindle Unlimited) when it comes out this week.

Mehso-so

The story started so good: witty thoughts/dialogues, animosity towards the love interest, little town atmosphere and British setting.
However the execution and the storytelling was not so well done, especially the romance aspect. The romantic feelings were revealed in their intensity too early, disintegrating any tension. Their make out scenes, grand gesture and HEA were narrated in speed mode. The funny dialogues/thoughts somehow disappeared too.

This was a quick witchy romance read. Aria is a bit of a mess at the beginning, living in London, getting fired from every job and her magic is haywire. Her grandmother comes and brings her back to their witchy home and community. She loves plants and competes in a competition to win a garden. Though it‘s basically a competition for her to learn her magic. There is also romance with a guy she met at 17. Low pick.
