First, I‘d like to thank Goodreads for this book that I won on their app. I found it very interesting. The topic is the Klondike gold rush fascinates me. I liked learning about the Barry, Bush and Lowell families. The story gives a true example of what comes around goes around. I have very strong feelings about one character in particular who I found to be very evil. I won‘t say more,
So as to avoid a spoiler. I highly recommend this book.

While my family went skiing, I stayed in the cabin with the pup! I finished the tagged book, which I received a while back as an early copy from the publisher.

I‘m giving it a low pick because I loved the 1890‘s Klondike chapters, but didn‘t love the 2015 present-day storyline. The 1890‘s Gold Rush chapters were exciting and thrilling and the Berry family‘s greed propelled the story. The 2015 chapters…

My first read of 2014! One-third thru and really enjoying it. I can‘t say I‘ve read many Gold Rush stories. Man, I love the Yukon Territory setting. #currentlyreading

From the #TOB24 long list. I listened to it, which always dulls a story down for me.

A multi-generational story of the Yukon Gold Rush and the resulting riches. The story had both too much detail and not enough, if that makes sense. Two storylines to follow, with one of them being completely unnecessary.

I loved the Yukon setting for this gold rush novel and quite enjoyed most of it. But I do have some quibbles. It has a modern day storyline that I felt added little and the book would have been better without. There are also a couple of odd structural choices on how info on certain characters is delivered to the reader that I would have liked smoothed out. A low pick for me from the #tob24 longlist.

If you‘re into sweeping historical family sagas, this one‘s for you! I don‘t always love them, but Alice‘s greed and conniving totally drew me in. Great character!

After striking it rich in the Klondike gold rush, Alice‘s sister takes her up to care for her. While there, Alice looks to enrich herself while cutting off a local indigenous family. In the present day, Alice‘s descendant looks to right this wrong. A good look at white guilt. #tob24

Much disappointment here. It needed more context for the characters and more of what was sparsely provided in the contemporary thread in investigating the past. But I like the narration of the females, the social commentary, the fact that it was character -driven. I usually go for this sort of thing, but it didn't really work for me this time around.

I found myself pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this one. There is so much detail in this story. I'll admit that at times, I found myself asking why the author was telling me every miniscule detail of the way something looked or the supplies being used, but it really does all come together to enrich the story.

This book might not be for everyone, but fans of sweeping historical tales like East of Eden will like it.

This book was a Barnes & Noble book club pick…I‘m struggling with it. Also have audiobook not getting any better should I stay or bail????😂
