Thank you, my friends: 51,000 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reviews on Goodreads . Is it time to discover (or rediscover) the novel about a home birth, a midwife on trial, and a young girl coming of age in Vermont that first introduced my work to so many of you? @DoubledayBooks

BarbaraBB I read and loved this one! Haven‘t raad any other books by you. Recommendations?! 13h
Suet624 @BarbaraBB I know you're not asking me specifically, but I would suggest avoiding The Double Bind. I've been haunted by that book for years now. 12h
BarbaraBB @Suet624 In a positive way? 12h
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Lol. I won‘t 😀 11h

The Human Comedy | William Saroyan
post image

Happy 117th birthday to William Saroyan, the brilliant Armenian-American writer of screenplays, plays, novels, and short stories —. a winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and an Academy Award. He is a role model for me for dozens of reasons, but a big one is the sheer volume of his work. Only a fraction of what he wrote did he deem good enough to share with the world.

I am deeply alarmed by the state of the U.S. Many of you are, too. So, let‘s learn about fascism — a book club, perhaps. But, if nothing else, book suggestions. Let‘s start with WHAT WE KNEW: TERROR, MASS MURDER, AND EVERYDAY LIFE IN NAZI GERMANY.

Amiable Thank you for speaking out! And for the book suggestion—requesting it from the library right now. (edited) 2w

I've been reading a lot of non-fiction about fascism, nazism and authoritarianism in the last couple of years, but not in English and not necessarily of direct interest to US readers, so I'll probably lurk rather than participate...

I just did something I tell younger writers NEVER to do, and I‘m kind of glad I ignored my usual advice: I peeked at the number of stars for one of my books online and found. . .this. So, I want to thank you, my readers: I am so glad you‘re enjoying THE JACKAL‘S MISTRESS, my Civil War Romeo and Juliet! You‘ve helped make my weekend!

At least once a season, I read or re-read a classic.

BiblioLitten I started doing that this year. Read Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I read it back in 2006-07. It hits differently and I like it way more! 1mo

I love reading the New York Times Book Review on Sunday. But I especially love it when there is a wonderful review of one of my novels. Deepest thanks to the editors at the NYTBR, critic Alida Becker, and Doubleday Books: “The true story of a wounded Union officer saved by a Confederate woman amid the shifting battle lines in the Shenandoah…[Bohjalian] returns to this historical material, adding imaginative twists to the original story line.”
