Bittersweet in the Hollow
Bittersweet in the Hollow | Kate Pearsall
10 posts | 6 read | 3 to read
In this beautifully dark and enthralling YA, four sisters with unusual talents investigate a mysterious disappearance in their secluded Appalachian town. For fans of House of Hollow and Wilder Girls! In rural Caball Hollow, surrounded by the vast National Forest, the James women serve up more than fried green tomatoes at the Harvest Moon diner, where the family recipes are not the only secrets. Like her sisters, Linden was born with an unusual ability. She can taste what others are feeling, but this so-called gift soured her relationship with the vexingly attractive Cole Spencer one fateful night a year ago . . . A night when Linden vanished into the depths of the Forest and returned with no memories of what happened, just a litany of questionsand a haze of nightmares that suggest theres more to her story than simply getting lost. Now, during the hottest summer on record, another girl in town is gone, and the similarities to last years events are striking. Except, this time the missing girl doesnt make it home, and when her body is discovered, the scene unmistakably spells murder. As tempers boil over, Linden enlists the help of her sisters to find whats hiding in the forest . . . before it finds her. But as she starts digging for truthabout the Moth-Winged Man rumored to haunt the Hollow, about her bitter rift with Cole, and even about her familyshe must question if some secrets are best left buried.

Book 10📚 4⭐️

Love a witchy town story.

The James women have always had special abilities and Cabal Hollow has always feared the Moth Winged Man. But how are they connected?

Bittersweet in the Hollow is set in the small, isolated Applachian town of Caball Hollow which is encompassed by the National Forest. The story follows Linden James who has a paranormal gift. This dark fast-paced YA thriller combining mystery, horror, folklore and a touch of romance, grips the reader from the beginning, the tension mounting with each revelation and twist. I completely devoured Bittersweet in the Hollow and absolutely recommend it.

Somehow I‘ve managed to read another moth-man inspired arc from NetGalley and I wasn‘t even mad about it. I quite enjoyed this YA thriller. I absolutely loved the setting, deep in the Appalachians, such a wonderful and mysterious place. For this to be this author‘s debut novel, I was surprised because this was fantastic! I will be picking up the sequel. 3.75/5

GondorGirl She's a local author and I went to her book release. Her friends all made matching shirts and her mom brought snacks for everyone. They were all so excited and adorable. 🥰 5mo

This book was okay. It just felt like every other book I have read come out this month in YA thriller. Whimsical, with lyrical writing and a lot of character plot. There is not too much time spent on the thriller aspect. It just feels like it's been way over done this year. Also, it's not a bad book, tho. 3/5

When the book you're reading talks about the Moth-Winged Man's giant red eyes and you glance up to see... 👀

Damn it, Mothman! 😅

I came up to Schuler's Books in West Bloomfield, Michigan for Kate Pearsall's debut novel. She's in conversation with Andrea Hannah (Where Darkness Blooms) and Rebecca Mix (The Ones We Burn).

Her entire family is here for a launch, wearing custom t-shirts, bringing snacks, and absolutely bursting with pride. It's the most adorable thing ever. 🥰

Enjoying one of the last days of summer by sitting outside and reading an ARC of Bittersweet In the Hollow. I've been under the weather and slept most of yesterday, but was able to work on catching up on some book club stuff today. My daughter is home from college for a couple days already because she missed the cats. 😂 What are you up to?
