The Amish are a secretive people, and it‘s commonly known that a lot of domestic violence runs free in these communities. The author writes about one such event that ended in murder, but the catch is, this wasn‘t the only one. Eli Stutzman wasn‘t a real Amish man; it was a cover for his crimes. He had fake identities, secrets, and a history of violence. His three victims nor their families have received any justice, and it is of no help that⬇️
We visited some Amish friends last weekend, and I didn't breathe a word that I was reading this book ?
The Amish Wife is a true crime book that I got free on Kindle about a woman who died in a "barn fire."
Spoiler alert - it wasn't the fire that killed her.
I'm glad to be on to the next book. The title intrigued me, but the book dragged.
As the lies and secrets were uncovered, I found it strange how many people just closed their eyes and mouths to the facts. Eli was strange in many ways (I don‘t mean his being gay.) His statements were so varied from one account to the next with the death of his wife and son. I read this with an open mind but feel that Gregg Olsen has figured this out. I gave it a 3.5/5
Audiobook: the nonfiction side of Amish crime , that complemented my current streak of Amish murder mystery series (Kate Burkholder) reading. The stoic nature of Amish culture fosters deadly secrets. The author had an obsessive fascination with 1 particular case: a pregnant Amish wife perishes in a barn fire under suspicious circumstances.

“What if the story that haunted you for 30 years held the key to solving a decades-old mystery?
Gregg Olsen dives deep into the heart of a chilling true crime saga.
THE AMISH WIFE is Gregg Olsen at his best: dogged, inquisitive, eloquent, and human.”

I'm looking forward to curling up in front of a cozy fire & immersing myself in 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝗪𝐢𝐟𝐞 by 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐠 𝐎𝐥𝐬𝐞𝐧. It sounds like an absolutely fascinating story & is getting superb reviews. Thegracious folks at Thomas & Mercer sent me a copy, & now that my band rehearsals & concerts have concluded until mid-January, I have more time to read! 📖
