Definitely shines the light on how we got here. The Reagan years were awful in my opinion, he definitely started the race to the bottom, trickle down economics, didn‘t. Less about people, more about corporations. The rise of Rush Limbaugh, one sided views of the political scene created the tunnel vision leads to the current cult . An uptick in extreme right activity ,the murder of radio host Alan Berg . Buchanans America 1st ,white & exclusionary👇

Leftcoastzen There is so much covered well in this book it‘s really tough to review in so few words. Absurdity & dark humor noted as well . Highly recommended! #antifabookclub #readingispolitical #overcomingevilempires 7d

Took 3 months for this hold to come in ,started today. I was around to clearly know that the Reagan years were the beginning of the end and predicted how we got here. I‘m sure it will fill in some details and I get to get mad all over again!😡

#CoverStories #Clock Haven‘t read this yet. Maybe looking back isn‘t that useful in the moment. I have always thought the republican downside really began with Reagan. This is the era of Rush Limbaugh who filled the airwaves with absolute lies. The era of Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot. The era where many conspiracy theories thrived and a segment of voters seemed to celebrate their ignorance. Hmmm , how did we get here? 🤔

Bookwomble I have no doubt that those things are intimately linked with the rise of neoliberalism as embraced by the Reagan-Thatcher alliance. 4mo

It‘s interesting how much of an aversion I have to this book, because of the subject matter, but so important to have read for a deeper understanding of how we got where we are. I hated listening to the maddening ways super conservative US politicians have wormed their way into power. I thought I was ready to hear it, but it just made me more mad. A good book but a bad topic. Covered politics before my time, so I now see how the stage was set.

danx I recently read George Lakoff‘s Whose Frredom? and had the same sentiment, helped understand the path toward where things are, very sad that the course did not change. 5mo

This well written history of how fringe right became mainstream was exceptional and engaging. Connecting political movements and events, Ganz effectively strings together an explanation of how where we are have been a long time coming and predictable. Great read!

It took me a long time to finish this one for some reason, although the concept was an intriguing one: looking back at the trends and events of the 1990s that foreshadowed or contributed to our political culture today. Having lived through that decade, it was interesting to see what I remembered, had forgotten, or never knew about David Duke, Pat Buchanan, Ross Perot, Ruby Ridge and many other key elements of the decade.

This was a thorough look at the political scene in the early 1990s with a heavy focus on the 1992 presidential election. I was a teen at the time and this brought back a lot of memories…like watching the Ross Perot infomercial. A lot of the things I didn‘t remember though…like how awful of a human being Pat Buchanan is. This is great for lovers of history and political science
