“What happened to the U.S businesses that collaborated with fascism? Corporations like DuPont, Ford, General Motors, and ITT owned factories in the enemy countries that produced fuel, tanks, and planes that wreaked havoc on allied forces. After the war instead of being prosecuted for treason ITT collected 27 million from the U.S government for war damages inflicted on its German plants by allied bombings. G.M collected over 33 million

Pickpick

I wasn‘t sure exactly what this book was about when I first saw it but I‘m so glad I read it. The main character time travels into the past of her descendants, straight into the hell of internment camps forced on Japanese Americans. The story jumps back and forth from the past and into the present, when white supremacist Trump is in the Oval Office. It has very Kindred and The Devil‘s Arithmetic vibes. Excellent and voter story telling. We⬇️

JenniferEgnor need books like this now, more than ever—as history is literally being erased and becoming illegal to talk and think about, by the day. No executive order or law will ever erase it, not while we have our memories. 2mo
dabbe Have you ever read FAREWELL TO MANZANAR? It's on my district's literature list, and I used to teach it. The author was a child when she and her family were forced to live at the Manzanar Internment Camp, and the memoir describes her experiences before, during, and after this horrific period. We do need books like these more than ever. #readingispolitical #resist ♥️👊🏻💙 2mo
JenniferEgnor @dabbe I have not. Just added it! 2mo
dabbe @JenniferEgnor I can't wait to read what you think about it! 🩵💙🩵 2mo

Fair warning…this may be a bit political. Though, as @TheBookHippie recently posted, reading is political.

I am beyond angry. Today‘s loss of IMLS, and the recent news of the future changes at the Smithsonian, are terrifying. Imagine a world without the services you rely on at the library or visiting a museum that provides a sanitized, incorrect history. In the US, that‘s what we will soon see.

So, I plan to read one nonfiction title a month ⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️ …that tells a full picture of history, not a sanitized version of a certain point of view. History is made of layers, and up until fairly recently, most of the stories we know come from the winners or those with the loudest voice in the room. The last 20-25 years has seen an increase in the stories hidden for decades, because they were of individuals who were not of a certain demographic. The news is out; you cannot remove these people from ⬇️ 2mo
Librarybelle ⬆️ …existence again. I want to read these #RealHistory titles to keep the memory of those silenced voices alive. Feel free to join if you wish. This is more of a read what you wish each month, and perhaps I‘ll collect a bibliography of titles read. History is so important. The silenced voices are important. Books are important. My choice for April is this book way too long on my shelf. I‘m passed due reading it. 2mo

ncsufoxes A few weeks ago I pulled this book back off my shelf. I‘ve read about a 1/4 of it & haven‘t gotten back to it. It‘s one I need to get to but right I feel like there are too many important books to consume right now. All of this right now is so infuriating & well the only way to put is f—-ed up. (edited) 2mo
Librarybelle @ncsufoxes It totally is. Ugh! 2mo
DrSabrinaMoldenReads This tells the story of my history and ancestors. 2mo
