Pickpick

I do not enjoy sci-fi, but I have read a few so far this year. I reread Ender, which then sent me to this series. Lands above! It may be better than Hunger Games @Chrissyreadit A "Red" (miner from Mars) loses his beloved wife, gets a horrendous, painful makeover, and then infiltrates the "Gold" (tyrant) society. Darrow is a one-of-a-kind hero. The competition is downright brutal. He can't trust anyone, but he gains loyalty. #overcomingevilempires

Butterfinger I love this book so much, I listened to it twice since January, and I begged my husband to read it. Sci-fi is his genre, and he knows how much I dislike it. He's going to read it BECAUSE I NEED SOMEONE TO DISCUSS IT WITH ME. 13h
Chrissyreadit Yes!!! Perfect choice - i think i will reread it- because i was blown away by how much i loved it maybe 6 years ago!!! 8h

I‘m a nonfiction geek, so these are the books that come to mind for when I need an emotional pep talk: Historians of fascism offer their guides to surviving and resisting America‘s recent turn towards authoritarianism. Because those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

Thanks for the tag, @Chrissyreadit !

Not gonna lie! I‘m incredibly anxious about the devestation to me and millions of others if this broken, brutal bleak budget bill passes. I look at history for hope and of course books about fighting fascist regimes- these are three of my favorites! Does anyone else want to share books that give them hope for #overcomingevilempires ?

TheBookHippie Yes!!!!! 16h
Suet624 Love this post. 16h

shortsarahrose Love this! Lord of the Rings would probably be my choice for series about overcoming evil. 16h
Librarybelle This is a great hashtag idea! Amazingly, I have never read this series, though I have a signed copy of the first book (before this was super famous). 16h
Susanita @shortsararose Ye! LOTR is a perfect choice. 16h
Eggbeater This one and the sequel. The magical children fight an evil government, but it's also really touching and feel-good. 16h
CBee This is awesome 😁♥️ 15h
Ruthiella Murderbot. It and it‘s Preservation humans fight the good fight. 15h
Amiable What a fabulous hashtag idea! 15h
Deblovestoread Fiction: The Handmaid‘s Tale…when I read it years ago it seemed so dystopian and yet here we are. Nonfiction: 15h
ImperfectCJ What great suggestions! It's not about defeating evil empires, but I found The Bill of Obligations by Richard Haass quite encouraging recently. I'm blanking on anything that hasn't been mentioned yet, but I'll come back if I think of something. Lately I've been thinking that things feel too much like The Hunger Games world, especially seeing billionaire weddings in the news side by side with people protesting to keep Medicaid. 15h
ImperfectCJ Oh, and this memoir, which I read years ago, and it's really stuck with me. Although it might be a little too nonfiction for the moment. 14h
dabbe L😍VE this! Since LOTR is taken, I opt for the original three STAR WAR MOVIES--defeating the Dark Side. 🖤

Oh, shoot you said books. Maybe this one.
