Jane and Dan at the End of the World
Jane and Dan at the End of the World | Colleen Oakley
Date night goes off the rails in this hilariously insightful take on midlife and marriage when one unhappy couple find themselves at the heart of a crime in progress, from the USA Today bestselling author of The Mostly True Story of Tanner & Louise. Jane and Dan have been married for nineteen years, but Jane isnt sure theyre going to make it to twenty. The mother of two feels unneeded by her teenagers, and her writing career has screeched to an unsuccessful halt. Her one published novel sold under five hundred copies. Worse? Shes pretty sure Dan is cheating on her. When the couple goes to the renowned upscale restaurant La Fin du Monde to celebrate their anniversary, Jane thinks its as good a place as any to tell Dan she wants a divorce. But before they even get to the second course, an underground climate activist group bursts into the dining room. Jane is shockedand not just because shes in a hostage situation the likes of which shes only seen in the movies. Nearly everything the disorganized and bumbling activists say and do is right out of the pages of her failed book. Even Dan (who Jane wasnt sure even read her book) admits its eerily familiar. Which means Dan and Jane are the only ones who know whats going to happen next. And theyre the only ones who can stop it. This wasnt what Jane was thinking of when she said til death do us part all those years ago, but if they can survive this, maybe they can survive anythingeven marriage.

This was so much fun. Jane and Dan won a raffle to eat at an ultra posh restaurant to celebrate their 19th-maybe 20th wedding anniversary. Jane is a failed novelist who finds herself dissatisfied with life and a soon as she mentions she wants a divorce to Dan, that‘s when the ecoterrorists (eco activists depending on who you ask) show up shoving a gun in Dan‘s face. Can they survive the night? So funny and oddly touching. Oakley does this neat👇🏼

Reggie trick where she mentions something and does these callbacks to that something. It was like eating that candy with the surprise gooey center. And she does it over and over in this book. A sweet pick! 18h

Reggie @Hooked_on_books I‘m not gonna lie, there were times where I just thought, just shoot Jane. lol I know that‘s horrible. But when Dan describes the history of their van. I got teary eyed. And every time Jane looked at her children and thought you are my lung that walks outside my body. That kind squeezed my heart. 16m

Jane and Dan are at the swankiest restaurant around starting to have a talk about the state of their marriage, which they each see very differently, when terrorists suddenly take over the place. This is quite a funny book and I had a good time with it, recommending it to my mom as soon as I finished.

Although I read lots of books with bits of comedy this was about the laughs from beginning to end, and it was a fun departure for me. The book speaks to the difference of irony vs coincidence. It also has a side character who happens to be the wealthiest man in the world. Realizing this book was written and likely sent to print before the IRL world‘s richest man became pseudo-POTUS - hmmm, irony or coincidence 🤔

Its_Amanda_Plz I‘ve been on the fence about this one but this pushes me to try it! 1w
marleed @Its_Amanda_Plz Yea, sometimes it‘s fun to read a book for the pure comedy of it. 1w

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟜

2024 was an oustanding year from a literary perspective. Happily, I read 95 excellent books & 4️⃣0️⃣ of them merited ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! Several were written by debut or new-to-me authors, but 2 of the standouts were 𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 & 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 by 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗞𝗿𝘂𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗿.⁣

My goal for 2025: 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ books.
