Grange, Florida, is, famous for its miracles-the weeping fiberglass Madonna, the Road-Stain Jesus, the stigmata man. And now it has JoLayne Lucks, unlikely winner of the state lottery. Unfortunately, JoLayne's winning ticket isn't the only one. The other belongs to Bodean Gazzer and his raunchy sidekick, Chub, who want the whole $28 million jackpot to start their own underground militia. But JoLayne Lucks has her own plans for the Lotto money, and when Bode and Chub brutally assault her and steal her ticket, she vows to track them down, take it back-and get revenge. The only one who can help is Tom Krome, a big-city investigative journalist now writing frothy features for a mid-sized newspaper. He is about to become part of a story that's bigger and more bizarre than anything he's ever covered. Chasing two heavily armed psychopaths is reckless enough, but Tom's got other problems-including his fugitive wife and his own growing fondness for the future millionairess with whom he's risking his neck. The pursuit takes them to a buzzard-infested island deep in Florida Bay, where they finally catch up with the fledgling militia-and their baffled hostage, a Hooters waitress. The climax explodes with the hilarious mayhem that is Carl Hiaasen's hallmark. Lucky You is his funniest, most deliriously gripping novel yet. BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Carl Hiaasen's Bad Monkey.

"Witty...colorful...entertaining." - New York Times Book Review

JoLayne Lucks lives in a town infamous for its suspicious miracles, but she's still elated when her lottery numbers finally pay off big-$28 million, to be exact. And she has great plans for her fortune: to save a rare piece of Florida paradise from the bulldozers. Only one problem: There's another winning Lotto ticket, and the people who've got it just never learned how to share.

I absolutely LOVE Carl Hiaasen!!! He's one of my few auto buy authors who's only let me down once. (I'm looking at you, Demi Moore) If you haven't read him yet, check out this article listing the 10 best opening lines of his books. 💜

While I didn‘t dislike the author‘s writing style, and will try another of his novels, I did not enjoy this particular book. The premise was interesting, but the story was so over the top and the stereotypes so blatant (and unpleasant) that I had to force myself to finish.

Trying to get our pocketbooks under control is like chasing kittens... for now, these suckers can stay put. That is, until, more strays wander in... and I've still got to catalog 4 more bookshelves

Bklover How do you catalog your books? 7y
IamIamIam @Bklover I found an app called My Library and it's really easy to use. You enter the ISBN and it will pull up an entry. You can enter your books that don't have an ISBN manually. There is a tab for notes where you can choose if it's read or not and comments. It also sorts by title or author and filters read books too! 7y
Bklover I recently downloaded My Library as I wasn‘t happy with the app I was using, so I think I‘ll give this one a try! Thank you! 7y

Not necessarily a #spynovel but there's plenty of suspense, sleuthing, and action. I love Carl Hiaasen novels. I spent my own youth back and forth between Alabama and Florida. Him being a devout Florida man, I can relate with him. I may have left the south for Colorado, but I still have a soft spot for beaches and swamps and genuine people. The rednecks are the bad guys, I also find that very relatable. #photoadaynov16

mrsh62010 @Viji I'm a preacher's kid, my parents took a church in Colorado the moment I graduated high school, I thoroughly enjoyed a couple years of freedom from my parents, and then my car broke down, I had to quit my job, a boy broke my heart, and they talked me into moving in with them. I didn't want to stay at first, but then I never went back lol. 8y
