Izolda‘s husband is deported to Auschwitz , and she must find him. This book is very direct and cuts to the core of her thoughts and experience , goes straight to the depths of the life she lives, we read the thoughts no one hears but her. A haunting & unforgettable ( in details I will remember) story of Izolda chasing the king of hearts. I can only share a detail in a spoiler ....

Thanks @andrew61 for bringing this one to my attention

Cathythoughts I loved many details , here‘s one : “ Our daughters wouldn‘t be here if you hadn‘t survived... Our daughters have your sisters faces . Who would have your sisters‘ faces if it weren‘t for you ?” 4y
Reecaspieces Love the wine glass....and the wine....and the book! 4y
Cathythoughts @Reecaspieces Thanks so much 👍🏻book was good ❤️ 4y
andrew61 Glad you enjoyed cathy, the format is so unusual in the speed with which you cover the war years yet i did not feel the impact was any less as it feels as if she is just about surviving and you wonder how she has survived. 4y

#booked2020 about genocide #readingeurope Poland @4thhouseontheleft @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage
Told with a simple style + shrt chapters, time skips which emphasises how a remarkable polish woman izolda (based on a true story) survives the ghetto, prison, torture, loss + auschwitz trying to trace her husband. A quick but impactful bk i reread it immediately adter putting it down. Scenes because underwritten will stay with me for some time.

Cinfhen Wow!! A reread after completing an initial read !!!!!! #stacked 4y
andrew61 @Cinfhen it was a very quick read and with short sections i rattled through it but then worried that i hadn't fully taken it in! I won't be doing that if as i plan i do start middlemarch soon. 4y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Very high praise from you! Glad the book you picked for this prompt was that compelling. 4y
Cathythoughts I‘m going to try this one for the prompt #genocide great review 👍🏻 4y

#booksintranslation #readingwomenmonth
There is so much brilliant literature published in translation, especially in the crime genre but i found two books close at hand that i hope to read soon.
