#TBRtemptation post 4! Meet Vivien, November 1922. A 24-year-old plainly-dressed six-foot-tall spinster. She's rich, so she travels to London and bribes a charismatic publisher to marry her. Her secret: she's five months pregnant and will die during childbirth. Enter a rain-soaked city of flappers, aristocrats, and shell-shocked vets. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
A uniqe writing style - smart, snarky, and sarcastic. Just like I like my friends!
I had about 30 minutes of reading time this week, and that's only because I read during the 6 minutes it took me to blow dry my hair each morning. Catching a few more pages waiting for Guardians to start.
Momentarily set my book aside to watch the end of the NASCAR race at Talladega.
Goodness does this quote hit home.
Finally a sunny weekend to enjoy the lake. Have a book in hand and beer in the cooler. Life is complete!
I love Fay Weldon, so I was really excited about this release back in March. Objectively speaking, it's got all the wry, sly satire she's so good at. Unfortunately, I'm just not in the right place for this read right now. I'm sure I'll try it again at some point. Right now, my eyes keep glossing the prose. My brain just can't engage it.
Less than 30 pages in, but I'm loving this book. The author leads the reader through this story in a charming manner, giving away her story telling secrets. It's like the author typed her stream of conscious thought right into the plot. And the quote above had me chuckling.
