Going with my 3 go-to women mystery authors for #3Authors. Agatha Christie, Louise Penny and Elizabeth George. Christie because she's the queen. Elizabeth George because I'm completely hooked on the Inspector Lynley series and Louise Penny because I'm also completely devoted to her Gamache/Three Pines series. ❤️🔪🕵🏻🕵🏻‍♀️

BookmarkTavern Agatha Christie is an excellent choice! 8y
SusanInTiburon I love them all 💜💜💜 8y

Inspired by @kmdartist and those who have taken a page from her book (get it?), here are the #3authors who have influenced me most: Dorothy Parker for her unwavering sharp wit, Joan Didion for her thoughtful cultural and personal commentary, and Lorrie Moore for her beautiful, relatable, and accessible prose.

BookishFeminist Nice choices!! 8y

#3authors These are the three authors who influenced me the most and played an important role in shaping the reader I am today. Enid Blyton, I devoured almost all her books, from Naughtiest Girl to boarding school series; Agatha Christie, made me fall in love with detective/mystery stories; Jane Austen, sparked my interest in classic stories with her sense of humour & social critique on British historical social class. 😊 @kmdartist

My #3Authors are Flannery O'Conner, Karen Russel, and Emily Brontë - just what is it about their darkly shuttered dramas that make my heart churn so?
(thanks to @BookishFeminist and @kmdartist for the idea)

The #3Authors who inspired me most:
Haruki Murakami showed me that mental health issues aren't something to be ashamed of and that some of the best literary characters can be afflicted by them.
JK Rowling brought me away from my real life into a world full of magic and introduced me to Hermione, Ginny, &Luna. #girlpower
Peter Balakian introduced me to the Armenian Genocide & started my journey into that type of history that continues today.

Zelma Great choices! I appreciate your reasoning for Murakami (and love his cat photo). 👍 8y

All My Puny Sorrows | Miriam Toews

#3Authors: Miriam Toews. Flannery O'Connor. Michael Crummey. I cannot count the ways I love and admire these three writers. The abilities they have with language and conveying emotion on the page are incredible. A little dark and twisty sometimes, but funny, smart and all heart! For me, they are a true gift - and not just to my literary life. They have given me so many wonderful hours of contemplation. Who are your three authors?

erinreads I loved All My Puny Sorrows so much! I spent a good month recommending it to just about anyone. 💕 8y
Booktrovert It is an incredible novel, @erinreads. I didn't shut up about it for nearly a year. (And, apparently I am still going on about it!!). 😀 8y
erinreads @Booktrovert And now I feel a reread in my near future the more I'm thinking of it! 🤗 8y

Stevenson wrote the first book I remember reading on my own - and I read it A LOT. I even made up my own stories about the illustrations or tried to figure out how they fit the poems. Doyle was my introduction to mysteries and a connection to my mom and maternal grandmother. Bradbury's Fahrenheit 51, along with Dickens' work, has helped to shape the way I see the world today. #3authors

Hoopiefoot My 2nd grade teacher made us memorize poems from Garden of Verses. I loved her and the poems! I still recite The Swing to myself sometimes. 8y
jpmcwisemorgan @Hoopiefoot I miss mine. I think it's packed up in Missouri. I need to find another copy. 8y
AudreyGreathouse Rusty great authors! Heres a question for you though: have you ever read any of Ray Bradbury's poetry? 8y
jpmcwisemorgan @AudreyGreathouse I don't recall so I'm going to say no. 8y

Pickpick

Ok here are my #3Authors in rough order of when they impacted my life.

In HS, I read Sharon Olds for the first time and fell in love with poetry.

Junior year, I read The Handmaid's Tale (on my own) and nothing was ever the same.

Last year, I read and taught Everything I Never Told You by @Pronounced_ing and it's a fantastic novel, plus Celeste is an amazing voice for equality

Thanks to @BookishFeminist and @kmdartist for the idea!!

The Color of Magic | Terry Pratchett

Surprisingly, this was much easier to do than the three fictional characters one. #3authors

Terry Pratchett, the man who taught me fantasy can be funny and powerful.

Ursula K Le Guin, the woman who taught me the true power and beauty of words.

Tamara Pierce, the woman who taught me how to find pieces of myself in stories.

Thanks to @BookishFeminist and @kmdartist for the idea!

elkeOriginal Holy moly - those are amazing choices!! 8y
BookishFeminist Ursula K LeGuin & Tamora Pierce are close seconds for me! I gobbled up most of their work. Such incredible writers. 8y
