‪Today was a first for the Blume family. I‘ve worked as a 911 dispatcher for almost two decades. I took my first 911 calls a few months after my son Liam was born. This morning, Liam took his first 911 calls. Sheri and I couldn‘t be more proud of him. #ProudParents #911Life

Nute I known that that is a challenging job. Thank you both for being there when someone is in need of help!💕 3y

For day two of BookRiot's #Riotgrams, here's where I read. The two places I read most are at work and at the gym. You probably wouldn't think a 911 center would provide much time to read (during the day and evening shifts, you'd be right), but on my midnight shift, there can be long stretches of silence. The trick then is keeping the brain active and sharp. #WhereIRead #ReadingSpaces #911life

Merethebookgal I bet you have some interesting work stories! I can read on the stationary bike, but can't on the elliptical; that's when audiobooks and podcasts come in handy 👍 7y
BillBlume @Merethebookgal I really do have some great stories. This past November marked 15 years. And oddly enough, I find reading easy on the elliptical, but only if I'm using my nook. Paperbacks and hardbacks are a different story, though. 7y
LauraBeth I'm not sure which picture I'm more impressed with! 😀 7y

ReadingVampire How do you become one???? I've been trying to find out where to apply? That career isn't for everyone. I know it will be slightly different where I live but maybe they have a similar way here. 7y
BillBlume @LauraBeth, thanks! I'll confess a soft spot for the bottom picture, but I don't get as much practical use from it compared to the one on top. (edited) 7y
BillBlume @Puredragonstar these days I know the county I'm with posts it on their on job site, but I have to think places like Monster.com or its equivalents would have it there. It can get categorized as law enforcement but it often gets listed as clerical (it so isn't clerical, though!). 7y
BillBlume @Puredragonstar and yes, it takes a rare type to do the job. Manning is an issue throughout the nation. Only a third of the recruits in the academies where I work tend to make it through the entire training process. 7y
