I‘m always late to the party… I‘ll be honest, I‘m not always the best with satire. I enjoyed this and then I hit a certain plot device with Elgin‘s admin and I felt like it became too goofy. I loved Bernadette‘s relationship with her daughter. I liked the setup of the narrative. This book is a remarkable debut novel! With short chapters from multiple perspectives and varying timelines, a story about family, love, sacrifice, and secrets emerges. It‘s an unique look at racism in the Caribbean, as well as a raw dive into grief and sorrow for things lost and for the hurdles life places in the way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finally got around to these two novellas from Hoover‘s #Hopeless series. Both are told from Daniel‘s POV and are cheesy and melodramatic, and I tore through them. To fully appreciate, read All Your Perfects between these two. A #CoHo sandwich, if you will.

I had no idea what ‘kaiju‘ stood for, so went into this clueless. I think my ignorance made the reveal more fun. I love Scalzi‘s humorous writing and Wil Wheaton‘s reading style should have been a good fit, but it didn‘t work for me. I switched to print midway through and enjoyed it more. Oh, and don‘t let the book blurb disuade you. The pandemic is just the initial backdrop and is barely mentioned after the first few chapters.
