#acrossapril April 2: children‘s

This is my shelf of children‘s books. A couple of these books were my mom‘s when she was a child. I found a couple of these at estate sales. A few of them were mine as a child. And some are new(ish) just because I love the stories. 💜

Eggs Lovely! And lots of Pooh 💗 5y
rockpools How lovely! And I never knew A Little Princess was published as Sara Crewe 💗 5y
Chrissyreadit I have the same copies of When We Were Very Young and Now We Are Six. My first poetry books and I loved them. (My other favorite was Edgar Allen Poe. For some reason I loved having my grandma read The Raven and Annabel Lee to me). 5y

I Want My Dummy! | Tony Ross
This post contains spoilers
show me

The solution Tony Ross offers to the question of what makes the Little Princess give up her dummy is as educational as it is backwards: Her male cousin tells her that it looks stupid. Great! Nothing better than introducing social shaming and the male gaze already at toddler stage...

@wanderinglynn this is probably my favorite book in my library--I found it at an antique store around 7 years ago. I never had a thing for antique books until this one!

mabell The title wasn't originally The Little Princess? 7y
Itchyfeetreader @Mabell I think it was originally a short story / serialisation and then extended into the novel a little while later 7y
wanderinglynn @mabell - @Itchyfeetreader is correct. It was a short story serialized in a magazine, and then expanded into a novel. 😀 7y

This double #shelfie is my collection of my favorite children‘s books, including some of my most treasured editions, like my 1916 edition of “Sara Crewe” (A Little Princess) by Frances Hodgkin Burnett and my grandmother‘s 1946 edition of “The Yearling” by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. ❤️📚

BiblioLitten 😍📖 7y

Pickpick

I LOVED The Secret Garden so I decided to give The Little Princess a read.
I enjoyed this sweet story. About a little girl who comes from riches to being poor and orphaned. Having to work for room and board and being treated horribly in the process. All the while she still manages to rise above and still think and treat others with kindness. Concludes with a sweet ending.

#riotgrams day 18 - #somethingpretty! This #puffininbloom edition of #ALittlePrincess is part of the set I got for Christmas and I'm thinking of getting my 9 year old son to read one of my all time favorites with me...

ErinBumG I think this is my all-time favorite book. Loooooove it. 8y
BornReadChicago @ErinBumG yes! I feel as if I have so many tied for that honor, but it's up there - I vividly remember my copy and I had a matching paperback of The Secret Garden ❤ 8y
