When Janette answers the door to a potential customer looking to board his dog, she never imagines he has nefarious plans. But minutes later he‘s dead and in her cellar. Weeks later she realizes she‘s pregnant. And so she becomes Mother and the baby Child, and a hidden life begins. But all secrets come out eventually.

EadieB This was a very interesting book. It had me gripped from the start. The brutal rape of Janette and then the birth of her baby which she kept in a small bedroom. Janette was a complex and evil character to her child. I found the book well-written with an amazing twist in the end. The unusual plot was written in three parts. First part talked about the rape and the murder. Second part was about her pregnancy and birth of the child. 1y
EadieB The third part was about the child's teenage years. The book had a slow start in the beginning but later took off. The psychological and physical abuse played a big part of the story. If you love books about psychological abuse then you would love this book. I would like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for a copy for an honest review. 1y

Andrew65 Love Eyam. Does this book includes Eyam‘s history during the plague in 1665? 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 Yes they do reference it throughout the book. 3y
Andrew65 @EadieB Thought they would if it‘s set in Eyam. It‘s only about 32 miles from where we live. 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 The author lives in Sheffield South Yorkshire and taught creative writing and started writing her books at age 69. Areas of S Yorkshire and Derbyshire are her preferred locations for her books. Her writing is excellent. 3y
Andrew65 We‘re in South Yorkshire. Adding her to my list. (edited) 3y
EadieB @Andrew65 Good idea! 3y
