Starting the year off a little slowly, only reading these two books. And I haven't finished anything recently.
pickMy initial book for #Belize didn‘t work out and, quite frankly, I‘m so glad, because I loved this one! It starts as a history of jaguars and humans and how they influenced one another then evolves into the modern science of jaguar study, Rabinowitz‘s area of expertise. Riveting book; he did wonderful work.

This was the first one of this classic fiction series that I have read, and I have to say that it was a fun read. Plenty of action and japes in the jungle that Biggles and his companions get them self into. Fast action and fun reading. A bit dated but still didn‘t spoil the read.

pickI enjoyed reading about Levison Wood walking across Central America. I recognized many places from when I traveled those countries myself in the 90s (by bus, not walking 😉). The book is more about the traveling than the visited places though.

While I admired Teddy Roosevelt after reading The River of Doubt, I‘m pretty ticked off with him for his aggression in Central America. Of course the Panama Canal is vital for many reasons, not least of which its value to Panama, but to take the land by force and Roosevelt‘s aggressive Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine are reprehensible. #readingtheAmericas #Belize

I just finished the first chapter with short histories of each of the 7 countries covered in this book. It‘s really well done and I‘ve learned a ton about our neighbors to the south. So I was quite disappointed to see the short history about #Nicaragua with pretty blatant typos, referencing #CostaRica. 😟
