Pickpick

Didn‘t think I was going to complete the #Booked2019Spring prompts but nothing like a rainy, lazy Sunday to nudge you across the finish line! Absolutely loved this read. I laughed, I cried, and my seventeen year old self connected and commiserated with Dimple and her (well meaning) overbearing parental units. A quick, fun, entertaining read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Booked2019 #foodorbeverageoncover @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

BarbaraTheBibliophage Nice review. It's terrific when we get to be happy it's raining! 5y

While I found the writing geared more to the younger crowd, the story as a whole touched on a lot of issues facing teenagers and young adults at the moment. Although I found it difficult at the beginning to differentiate the numerous narrators, it was a quick and enjoyable read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Booked2019 #Booked2019spring #socialmediafocus @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

BarbaraTheBibliophage Good review! Social media is everywhere, and that's an understatement! 5y
Cinfhen I thought this was really fun and a YA that anyone could enjoy 😊 5y

Told in the alternating voices of two sisters, Laura who has moved back home after a bad breakup and is getting ready for a first date and Rosie, married with child who frantically searches for Laura when she doesn‘t come back from her date. A bit of a slow moving plot but the unexpected twists were more than enough to keep me reading until the end. Enjoyable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #Booked2019 #Booked2019spring #nightorientedtitle

BarbaraTheBibliophage Great review. Good job sneaking one more prompt onto your list before the end of the season! 5y
Cinfhen This was pretty good but unfortunately ultimately forgettable. Great choice for prompt 5y

Accompanied my husband on his business trip to Saratoga Springs and spent a very lovely morning in Congress Park finishing this for the #Booked2019 #featuresamusician #Booked2019spring prompt. A group of dignitaries, business people and artists are taken hostage by a group of terrorists at the home of the Vice President of an unnamed South American country. Although the character development was on point, not exactly sure how much I liked this.

Cinfhen Lovely photo and review!! I remember being slightly underwhelmed when I read this book. Still have mad respect for Ann Patchett🙌🏻 5y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I really loved this one, but for sure it's not a “normal“ kind of plot. Hey, a prompt done and reading in the park, FTW though. 5y
Fridameetslucy One of my favorite books. Her style is reminiscent for me of Baldwin‘s later fiction - there is a great attention to building a ground. 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Ive tried to read this twice and never get far with it. I‘m convinced I‘ll like it. 🤷‍♀️ 5y

A young couple leaves the pressures of New York City to live a simpler life off the grid in small town Vermont. As Pia and Ash prepare for the coming storm, they must face not only their fears of impending doom but also the conflicts in their relationship. The environmental/global warming issues were addressed but felt like a mere backdrop to a couple‘s dysfunctional relationship. Barely finished this one. ⭐️ #Booked2019 #Booked2019Spring #cli-fi

BarbaraTheBibliophage Sigh. Dysfunctional relationships are hard to do in any kind of original way. 6y
Fridameetslucy Just passed it up on the Strands $5 review copy cart ... 6y
Cinfhen It seems this prompt produced a lot of uneven reads. Most either loved or hated their book choice. I fell into the pan group, too☹️ 6y

The forcible removal of First Nation children and placement in residential schools is a sad and dark part of our history and difficult to read about. Saul, an Ojibway boy placed in a residential school endures beatings and abuse. The only bright light in his life is playing hockey. I wanted to like this more than I did. Too heavy on the hockey and light on the emotional and historical issues. ⭐️⭐️ #booked2019 #booked2019spring #indigenousauthor

CouronneDhiver 😕 oh no! 6y
Cinfhen Too bad it wasnt a pick 😣still sounds like a heavy read 6y

A disappointing read! It started off great but the plot meanders after that. I was totally put off by the supernatural/paranormal elements thrown in (which also took a painfully long time revealing that). Just too bad!

It's a long, an heteroclite bunch of things that make a kinda nasty soup of cliches on race, women, drugs you name it it's there. I was taken a bit by surprise because this series had a better than average outlook with these subjects. Big herring... the add on of cocktails recipes. When the bath bubbles fragrances, lunch picnic food and child abuse are on the same level it's time for me to reconsider if I'm still on board with the series.

writerlibrarian Now question for @Cinfhen or @BarbaraTheBibliophage or @4thhouseontheleft could this count as #booked2019spring #nightoriented because I do not have the stomach to read what was my choice. But me, being a completist and read in order freak I read this one before. Big mistake, huge. ☹️ (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Sure!!!! Dark is night oriented !!!!! Clever💫wouldn‘t want all that reading time go to waste 😂 6y
writerlibrarian @Cinfhen 🥰 this was a waste of precious reading time. I did finish it because it had the paralyzing effect of watching a train wreck. Thanks. (edited) 6y
