Roslin &Edmure are wedded. Edmure seems pleased. The food is abysmal but the drinks are flowing at the feast. Grey Wind was not allowed in the hall. Roslin is scared as the hall calls for their bedding. Robb doesn‘t go to watch &Cat thinks of the implications. When snubbed by Edwyn Frey, she realized he‘s wearing chainmail &slaps him-

5feet.of.fury -Robb goes to them & is struck down by an arrow… the musicians are armed. Frey men come with long axes, Cat pleads for mercy. She takes a hostage &kills Jinglebell as Robb is killed. She cries out for her lost children as a sword is put to her throat… 2mo
BethM Ugh I hate this so much. I want a vicious end to Frey. 2mo

Doppoetry @5feet.of.fury or Bran and Rickon 😭 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Doppoetry where the ffffffffff is Rickon!!!! 😭 2mo
Doppoetry @5feet.of.fury He is probably somewhere out there, in the wilderness, hopefully still with Osha 2mo
5feet.of.fury They are taking forever, Bran‘s a couple days from the Wall the last time we saw them… but poor Arya was so close… @Doppoetry 2mo
Doppoetry @5feet.of.fury It's true! last chapter they were so close 😭If they would have only stayed a little longer... 2mo
BooksNBowls We knew it was coming, but it still hurts!! I hate that Cat died not knowing her family was okay. 😭😭 1mo
Roary47 This hurt my heart so much. 😭😭 I need a break from this… until tomorrow. Why is Theon still alive, but we lose Robb and Cat? At least before she can see her babies again! 😭😭😭💔 1mo
Bklover @BooksNBowls I agree! She never got to see any of them again. I‘ve been dreading this part- it‘s just sad. 1mo
Sargar114 Ooof, listened to it this time…and that might‘ve been worse! 1mo

Cat advises Robb on how to approach the Frey‘s but Grey Wind makes a bad impression. They all appear before Lord Walder, Rob apologizes to the Frey heirs for breaking his vow. Edmure meets Roslin &is pleasantly surprised. Cat is still on edge &invokes hospitality laws
Robb finds from Lord Bolton that Ramsay has Theon hostage. Robb gives him command of the rear guard

BethM Ugh so much dread, I need this story line over. I also feel like shouting : LISTEN TO YOUR DAMN WOLF! 2mo
majkia @BethM stupid human. Listen To the wolf!. Knowing what was coming I read the next chapter too. Igj 2mo
Roary47 @majkia same… 😱😭 Why don‘t they listen to their animals. 😭😭 (edited) 1mo

Robb has left his wife behind &they head to the wedding with hope that if Edmure &Roslin are wed happily Frey would be appeased.
Robb &Jeyne have been trying to conceive, he needs an heir for Winterfell, currently it would pass to Sansa &Tyrion. Cat tells him to name an heir; a Vale lordling. Robb says it will be Jon. She gives many excuses against it, only 1 good 1.

Balon Greyjoy is dead, knowing this will cause infighting, Robb plans an attack

majkia She hates Jon so much.... 2mo
5feet.of.fury @majkia every time she goes off about Jon my compassion for her just fades away. 2mo

BethM @majkia @5feet.of.fury I don‘t understand how she‘s so mad at him still but not Ned. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM it makes me so mad! He didn‘t ask to be BORN Catelyn! 2mo
Sargar114 While I don‘t love her dislike of Jon, I feel like it makes her more human and real as a character. She‘s flawed and that makes me appreciate her a little more as weird as it sounds. 2mo
BooksNBowls @Sargar114 I totally understand what you are saying! I just didn‘t understand she had so much conviction for how she treated Edmure and Robb, but none whatsoever about Jon. 2mo
BooksNBowls @BethM that good ole boys will be boys mindset 🙄 2mo
Roary47 I don‘t understand why she is mad at Jon either. Like she loves Ned and they probably worked it out. @majkia @BethM I have a strong feeling that his mother died so she in her mind can only take it out on Jon. Still not right, but in her mind her anger needs to go somewhere. We didn‘t find out who his mom is yet right? 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 It‘s still a mystery 2mo

Lord Hoster has passed, Edmure is now Lord of Riverrun. Holster‘s last word was “Tansy”. Lysa never replied to her letter, nor has she heard from KingsLanding about Jaime‘s return. But Robb has heard from KingsLanding about Sansa… &her marriage to the Imp. Then they are told Winterfell has burned. The Frey wards were taken by Ramsay &Theon‘s fate is unknown. Edmure is to marry Roslin Frey since Robb did not fulfill his betrothal.

BethM So much dread if this ends the way the show did. 2mo
Bklover @BethM Yes!!! 2mo
Roary47 Poor Cat is just getting bad news after bad news. I hope Rickon at least makes it to her soon so she can have some hope. 2mo

Tion Frey &Willem Lannister, boys still squires, were killed in Karstark‘s need for vengeance. Cat is appalled by what her own actions set into motion. Robb orders the conspirators hanged, even the dead ones. Karstark‘s men are gone, after the bounty for Jaime. &killing Karstark will make Robb more enemies, but Robb beheads him himself. Jeyne comes to Cat because she doesn‘t know how to help Robb &reveals they have been trying to make an heir.

Bklover I don‘t know, there‘s just something about Cat - she just seems so inept. Ned was honorable, so Cat seems honorable, but I‘m not sure she‘s all that authentic. Oh boy I am not saying this well but I like her less and less as time goes by. 3mo
5feet.of.fury @Bklover yes- I have been very concerned about her decision making skills right along, she has the gift of maturity &knowledge that many of the other characters do not & she still just makes the worst shortsighted choices. I try to allow for the fact that the whole series so far has been 1 tragedy after another for her…. But… it‘s really bad. I don‘t think she‘s without honor but… she doesn‘t have the same cornerstones & strength as Ned did. 3mo

Bklover Exactly! Well said! 3mo
BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury I think her family was her strength and she thinks they‘re all gone now.. it‘s sad but she wasn‘t a likeable character for me since the beginning. She‘s just completely ruled by emotion. 2mo
Roary47 Yes, definitely ruled by emotion like @BooksNBowls said. If I thought I lost my kids I‘m not sure I would have it all together either. My mom lost my dad 6 years back and I see a lot of Cat in how my mom can‘t seem to function in normal tasks. I‘m just glad she was kind to Robb wife. @Bklover @5feet.of.fury 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls @Roary47 totally valid, she has faced alot of tragedy. Right along her decision making has been wild& mosts thing she‘s done has left her family in a worse situation too. Asked Ned to intervene because Lysa suspected her husband was killed by Lannisters, left Winterfell to sneak into Kings Landing, kidnapped Tyrion, staying with Robb instead of going back to Winterfell, let Jaime go leaving Robb in the WORST position.. ugh 2mo
5feet.of.fury She just drives me nuts 😅 plus she hates Jon. So …villain behavior right there. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 I‘m sorry about your dad ❤️ my mom died when I was young and my dad was pretty checked out & it took me a couple decades before I was like “ohhh you were depressed” I agree grief can definitely have a lasting effect, especially if you are used to having help and now have to figure it all out 2mo
BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury totally agree!! She should have stayed in winterfell with B&R 🙄🙄 yeah anyone who hates Jon just has no morals!! We must protect Jon at all costs! 💔 2mo
Bklover @Roary47 I never thought about it being because of grief! Excellent point. And I‘m so sorry about the loss of your dad❤️ 2mo

Robb returns. Karstark says Cat has cost him his vengeance. She tells him that Jaime‘s death would not bring back his sons, whereas his freedom may bring back Cat‘s girls. Robb has forgiven her, he understands follies done for love
Robb has taken a wife Jeyne of the Crag (former ally of the Lannisters). Backed into a corner, she welcomes his wife (&queen). Later, she scolds Robb for breaking his oath to the Freys.
Robb must take back Winterfell

BethM Men. Always thinking with the second brain 🤣 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM 16 year old Robb: “she comforted me” Cat: 🙄 *yeah I‘ll bet she did* 3mo

BooksNBowls @5feet.of.fury 🤣🤣🤣 exactly!!! 3mo
BooksNBowls I never understood why Robb didn‘t go back to Winterfell immediately upon hearing of his brother‘s death and Theon‘s overtaking… 3mo

Desmond offers excuses for Cat treason (mad with grief for her sons! She knows not what she does!) but she declines. confined to her fathers quarters, he asks for Tansy, Cat concludes that Tansy is Lysa &why her father married her to Jon Arryn. She writes Lysa to come see their father 1 last time. Edmure returns, worried of Lannisters new allies: Highgarden &Dorne, & he has ruined any appearance of Jaime‘s return being a prisoner exchange.

Doppoetry It's frustrating to see Edmure dismiss Cat's worries because returning her children back to her is “pointless“ because they are daughters and not sons. I think if they were boys and older Edmure would be singing a different tune. (edited) 3mo
5feet.of.fury @Doppoetry I agree, they were all putting Cat through the wringer, called her crazy, watching her dad suffer, her letter won‘t get to Lysa in time, Robb‘s hurt, then Edmure thwarts her plan & was very unsympathetic 3mo

BethM @Doppoetry agreed! Also, Edmure is a mansplaining idiot so far. 3mo
Roary47 In Cat‘s view Robb is really the only one for sure she has left. I‘m worried his injury is more than just a little hurt. 😢 3mo
BooksNBowls @BethM I was ready to fight Edmure by the end!!! I was waiting on him to comment on her telling him to get out too 😤 3mo
BooksNBowls @Roary47 exactly!! Why are they all hush hush about it?! I am heartsick for Cat though. 😢 3mo
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls 😢 poor Cat, one thing after another 3mo

Riverrun celebrates victories but Cat can only think of Bran & Rickon. She received word that the boys tried to escape &were taken at the mill &Theon mounted their at Winterfell.
At midnight Brienne comes &they go to Jaime in his cell. She asks him questions, which he answers truthfully. Denies that he sent the man to kill Bran &implicates Robert. Jaime taunts her with stories of the past &of Ned. As the chapter ends, she calls for Brienne‘s sword

BooksNBowls Great chapter, seems Cate doesn‘t have much to lose anymore.. Jaime sure does have some audacity!! Less than a month and we will be done, I can‘t believe it! I‘m loving these discussions. So glad to be a part of this! I didn‘t get on yesterday, but Merry Christmas everyone. ❤️ 4mo
Bklover Catelyn‘s life really is kind of a train wreck, which is sad, because she is a strong woman. That Jaime is something else. Somehow he seems creepier in the books. 4mo

5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls @Bklover Merry Christmas! I hope you had a good holiday! I think we finish CoK 1/9 SO SOON!! & I agree Jaime is such a creep, the way he told her about what he did to Bran 😡 4mo
BooksNBowls @Bklover definitely creepier!!! 4mo
Roary47 Bran and Rickon can‘t be gone. 😭 4mo

cat‘s brother rides to Battle. She reflects on her relationship with Ned, their sudden betrothal &the secret of Jon‘s mother.
Brienne shares her thoughts on Tywins likely strategy. Edmure was successful at stopping Tywin‘s crossing of the river.
She visits Ser Cleos &hears the “peace terms”. intrigued that they would trade the girls for Jaime, but concerned he only saw Sansa.
Edmure wins another battle, but she is still apprehensive to celebrate.

Roary47 I‘m hoping that Sansa escapes and both the girls end up with Robb or Catelyn while they are still trying to negotiate. 4mo
BethM I liked the last line of the chapter. You‘re afraid bc you know better Cat. 4mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 @BethM after empathizing with Cat the last bunch of chapters, I felt as if this chapter was turning back towards what I didn‘t like of her in the first book… obsessing over Jon & making rash decisions. how she was asking ser Cleos about the girls… I‘m waiting for the impulsive decision to go swap Jaime 4mo

Catelyn & Brienne are being safely escorted to Riverrun. As they near, Brienne wants to leave& go back to kill Stannis. Cat encourages Brienne to fight their shared enemies by fighting on Robb‘s side. Brienne swears an oath to Cat instead. Edmure has hanged men who came in Ser Cleos‘s envoy with the intent to free Jaime. She disagrees with Edmures battle strategies. At last, she goes to see her father & pays respects to Ned‘s remains.

Roary47 That scene with Ned‘s remains and the other with her father in another time was so sad. She isn‘t a favorite of mine, but I sure felt for her here. 😢 5mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 😢agree, she‘s really going through it. 5mo
BooksNBowls @Roary47 I can‘t imagine as a mother how torn she is. Between her boys back at Winterfell, her girls she‘s trying to save, and Robb who she‘s trying to advise and protect. And then she‘s grieving Ned, ugh 😭😭 5mo
