2 Stars • Pamela Dean reimagines the Scottish ballad as a 1970s urban fantasy set at Blackstock College, Minnesota. Freshman Janet Carter navigates academic life, friendships, and romances with Classics majors tied to the mysterious Professor Medeous. Amid literary discussions and subtle supernatural hints, the novel builds slowly to a magical climax. Blending coming-of-age themes with lyrical prose. It really didn‘t hit the mark for me.

Because the future that lay before her would indeed be one of unity and peace, starting here, with those she loved. Anything they built on this foundation could only be good and true and right.
It could only be the stuff of dreams.

February 2025 Book read #1 😳😬🫣

I started this book inJanuary but finished it in February for in memory of @sharread #Sharreadathon @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Book was picked from her litsy list.

I liked this book, the world and character. A Rumplestiltskin retelling. However, didn‘t like much the ending, maybe I was expecting something more dramatic and dark due to the story. But still I liked it. 3.8/4 ⭐️

Gissy #BookSpinBingo #DoubleSpin #10 (subscription-received this book in Uppercase subscription which is not longer open). Have it since 2018😳signed copy

2.25⭐• Ursula‘s back story • with mentions of many other Disney characters •
•The only reason I picked this up was for the U character name to go in my A-Z book challenge, and there could‘ve been a decent story here for all I know. Unfortunately, the narration killed it for me. I disliked the accent, which, to be fair, is most definitely a me thing, but her voice tone was also horrendous. Her character voices were just a high-pitched mess.

KadaGul I'm picky about narrators. If the narration is fantastic, I wouldn't mind reading a book that isn't perfect! But if the narrator isn't great, I'll probably just choose to read it instead. 1w
AudiobookingWithLeah @KadaGul me too, pretty much. 1w

This was a fun little read. This is a fairy tale retelling of Sleeping Beauty. What if the fairy gifts weren‘t to protect the Princess, but to protect others *from* the Princess? It really is a charming little novella. Give it a go!

Purchased a copy for a child and realized some readers were concerned about the content and I needed to check it out. I found that this quirky fairytale reminds children that the world can be difficult and silly, but that all are searching and fighting for their heart‘s desire. Read and discuss together. This tale of an unlikely hero fighting fear and rats to save a princess is a four ⭐️ read.
