Spindle's End | Robin McKinley
post image
Mehso-so

The princess is cursed to die by a spindle, she is stolen away & raised as ordinary. But her fairy gifts cause problems, & there is still the curse to worry about.

The scene setting is unparalleled, as I expected from McKinley, but lord the plot is glacial. I think I would have enjoyed this better as an audiobook as the writing is lush & lyrical. & I wasn‘t invested in the romance. I kept thinking Rosie & Peony should get together.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

What a great what if... fractured fairy tale of Frozen this was! Loved the story from beginning to end.

A delightful, fast-paced fantasy read with characters (non-magical) you would want as IRL friends. I did not know what to expect as I haven‘t read Brother Grimm‘s Goose Girl, but there‘s quite a number of heroic geese in this one!
Fantasy isn‘t my top genre, but I‘d recommend this one to start with for sure!

What Really Happened to Humpty? | Jeanie Franz Ransom

Pickpick

#DynamicDs Day 1: In this picturebook, we find out From The Files Of A Hard-Boiled #Detective what really happened to Humpty. The main character of the story is Joe Dumpty, Humpty‘s younger brother who happens to be a #detective. Most naturally, he is keen on cracking the case of his brother, whom he feels has been pushed from that great wall. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-iqi

Beastly Beauty | Jennifer Donnelly

Low pick for me. I have liked other books by Donnelly quite a bit and was a little disappointed in the writing style. I LOVE Beauty and the Beast and retellings- so was a excited to read a gender swapped version. I also liked the premise. I just was not pulled in and found it to be a little boring. It could also be just the timing…

I‘m continuing my 2025 #bookspin “slices of my bookshelves” journey with yellow and green spines on my paperback and hardcover fiction shelves and just 2 greenish nonfiction. What will @TheAromaofBooks pull for our April numbers?

I will definitely be reading The Bees for my bookclub.

AmyG Omg…it‘s almost April already. What? 3w
TheAromaofBooks I'm pretending it isn't almost April 😂 3w

The beauty of the Alaskan wilderness is on full display here in this modern take on the Beauty and the Beast fairytale. Although Birdie has community support raising her daughter she feels stifled by their always watching eyes. When Arthur offers her an opportunity to live in solitude, nature and maybe even love, it seems like the answer she‘s needed to make a positive change for her and Emaleen. 3.5🌟

Thank you #NetGalley!

The 13 Clocks | James Thurber

Pickpick

#CoverStories Day 21: 13 #Clock(s) tells the story of an evil duke who has murdered time (all thirteen clocks in the castle had been frozen at the same time, one snowy night, seven years before – thus it was always ten minutes to five in the castle); an enchanted princess; and a Prince disguised as a Minstrel who wishes to save the princess.
