When Mrs Tim first appeared she was a military wife in peacetime, but now war has broken out & Tim is already in France while other old friends get ready for active service. In spite of the changed circumstances regimental politics continues & Hester‘s good nature and diplomacy are called on more than ever. Nearly as delightful as the first instalment. I don‘t know why it‘s taken me so long to get around to reading this one.

I know a lot of people are tired of World War II fiction, but not me. I always tend to find ones from a different perspective that I haven't read before. I loved this one with 4 POVs set on the British home front. It has reconciliation and a little romance as well.

I hoped for more depth in a couple of the key characters. Good story of strong women who become trusted friends and found family. Set in WWII England just outside London, a cooking competition brings 4 women together. There is drama, love, and heart break.
3.5⭐️ we love a strong woman! Recommend.

I love WWII fiction and this gave me such a warm and comforting feeling while I listened to it…there‘s just something about that whole “keeping the home fires burning” scenario, even while it can be sad, that draws me in and gives me comfort. The characters were great - other than one, which was just horrid and I didn‘t believe her big change one bit - and I definitely recommend to anyone who loves WWII fiction like I do. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

LeahBergen @Tamra Yes, and they were trying on a medium-sized gas mask and the husband commented that‘s she‘s probably more like an extra large. I sympathized as I have a big head, too. 😆 1y
