Dark and atmospheric, Reid does a fabulous job of setting the tone of a dreary and dank remote Scottish castle. Reid does take some creative license but I don‘t think the purpose was to simply retell the play, but to reimagine what it might have been like for a young ‘witch-touched‘ woman to be thrown into a male driven world, with a power hungry husband. Macbeth is my favourite Shakespearean play and Reid did a commendable job.

July‘s #bookspin comes from a very limited selection, since I‘ve packed all but 3 of my books 😱. The other are audio from Libby and Libro.FM. If I happen to have enough time for more there‘s always my kindle or the library! Hopefully my shelves will be set back up by the end of July. 📚

TheAromaofBooks Best wishes on the moving!! My husband is hoping to finish building our library shelves this weekend - it's been sooooo fun to start getting books settled into their new home!! 21h

This year for #PrideMonth I wanted to challenge myself to read all of the letters in the Pride spectrum (well the most common at least - LGBTQAI)

I found that Intersex, Asexual, and Queer were the most difficult books to find.

Q- while queer is often used as a catchall category I was really looking for authors who specifically called themselves Queer, and it turned out harder then I had first thought.

These are the books I read.

willaful When I was looking a few years ago, I had the hardest time finding a book with an intersex character that wasn't absolutely horrific. Finally found Pantomime by Laura Lam, which is a very good read. 2d

Mehso-so

A sapphic retelling of Beauty and the Beast set in a Vietnamese culture in a world plagued with mutant viruses unleashed by the Vanishers.

Disappointing. I spent too much of the time trying to understand what was actually happening while the author concentrated on physical descriptions and emotional states.

I love any Jane Austen spin-off, so this modern version was enjoyable. The author stuck with the same storyline but modernized it. He made Bingley a doctor and a reality TV star and I thought that Jane being a Yoga instructor was perfect. Darcy and Elizabeth‘s chemistry was good and sexy. My only criticism is, it attempted to add any prejudices the author could think of in the modern world. It did modernize it, but it felt forced in my opinion.

A lyrical YA story about a boy trained as an art their and the boy he falls in love with that changes everything. Very Greek with Icarus and Helio as our main guys! I thought there were a few unusual and interesting ideas in this story, and I overall enjoyed the writing, even if some of the elements were a bit too fantastic.
