“Mary Craven didn‘t think about death until the day it knocked politely on her bedroom door and invited itself in.”

Next up! This all-female retelling of The Secret Garden with and Indigenous perspective has been on my TBR for too long. There‘s a queer element too, making it the perfect June read.

Pickpick

I am currently about an hour south of Hollywood! I loved this version of Sense and Sensibility! A really fun retelling with some original storylines as well as still recognizable to Austen fans.

IriDas An hour as in an hour or as in how long it took in LA traffic? :) 22h
Chrissyreadit @IriDas Ha!!! no in LA traffic it would be closer to 2. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 21h

I've heard contrasting opinions about this book, but in the end l decided to get it.

I've read another book by Vo (Sirena Song), veereery strange. But l liked it for that very reason. So, let's see how it goes.

What do you think?
Have you read it?

Part two of a movie musical based on a stage musical based on a book based on a movie musical based on a book. Phew!

#BookAdaptations

Semi serious question. I‘ve been going through my books trying to get rid of some (none so far 😅) and I found my copy of Wicked I tried to read back in high school. Should I give it another go?

Soubhiville In my opinion, no. I read 2 of his books years ago and honestly don‘t like his writing style at all. The blurbs on back of his books sound so good, but I have ended up really not liking them. 2d
rubyslippersreads I love the Wicked musical and The Wizard of Oz in general, and I did not like the Wicked novel. (edited) 2d
BarbaraJean I vote no as well. I loved the musical and hated the book. I really liked the tagged book by the same author, which I‘d read years before, so I WANTED to like Wicked, but I did not. Go with your high school self‘s opinion! 2d

BookBr Just to play devil‘s advocate, I LOVED the book and disliked the musical. I thought Maguire really created a solid vision of an Oz for adults, if that makes sense. Lots of weird fairy tale elements to love too. 2d
Prairiegirl_reading I also vote no. I thought it was a disappointment. 2d
Susanita I liked his book about the tooth fairy but bailed on Wicked. 2d
willaful I liked his children's books but didn't get into Wicked. 2d
