Jaime feels the guilt of his fathers death. He hasn‘t seen Varys since helping Tyrion escape. When he went to question the undergaolers they were all killed by the Kingsguard at Cersei‘s behest.
Cersei comes to see him in The Great Sept & She pleads with him to be Hand & they can rule like King &Queen. He declines.
Still upset with her, but he gives Cersei advice on handling Mace Tyrell, but it means rushing Margaery &Tommens wedding

Roary47 I‘m not sure how I feel about this chapter. He helped his brother, yay! His dad was killed because of it, and he cared about his dad as close to the favorite. 😭 He cant question anyone because Cersei is losing it. 😡 He offers his next oldest son to be married early… really early. 🤢 4d
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 yes, he‘s a rollercoaster of emotions. Moving up the wedding scares me, this series doesn‘t have a good history with weddings 4d

Roary47 @5feet.of.fury very true. 😬 4d
BethM I thought it showed real emotional evolution of his character- not just thinking. With his 🍆 3d

Jaime questions the Kingsguard on if they think Tyrion committed the murder. Loras names Sansa instead, saying she would have reason to kill Margaery as well. Jaime tells Boros to be Tommen‘s food taster which doesn‘t sit well with him. He puts Meryl in his place for beating Sansa as well. Jaime confronts Loras about Renly‘s ghost, it was his brother Garlan, plot devised by Littlefinger. Then he dissuades Loras against his revenge on Brienne

BethM He‘s turning into such a morally balanced character. 1mo
Roary47 I was thinking that seeing Renly was just a rumor. I didn‘t think someone was actually dressed up in his armor. It is sweet that this kid is protective of him even now that he is gone. 1mo

Jaime is told the recent events &thinks again of how his life could be without the lies. They‘ve reached KingsLanding but Brienne has no way to fulfill her vow
At the castle Ser Loras confronts Brienne about Renly‘s death. Jaime stops him but she is arrested
He goes to see Cersei &he brings up making their relationship known, she doesn‘t want to
He meets Tywin who has plans, Jaime to go to Casterly Rock w/Tommen &be wed to Margaery. Jaime says no

Bklover Poor Brienne! And Jaime just keeps getting creepier. 1mo
majkia @Bklover yeah. he reverts every time he's near Cersei. 1mo

BethM Tywin is the worst 1mo
Roary47 Cersei seems ashamed at least of their relationship. Gross. 1mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 @Bklover @majkia I can‘t decide who is worse, Cersei clearly knows it‘s wrong but she‘s still going to do it, Jaime is happy with her and doesn‘t care what people think (but certainly should in this case) 1mo
BooksNBowls I feel like he‘s romanticized Cersei in his head a bit, or maybe he‘s been away so long he forgot how cold and monstrous she really is. I mean we really don‘t have any context of their relationship together, but I was expecting something different from their reunion. 1mo
5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls agree… she seems to love him in her own delulu way…. But she uses him just like she uses everyone else… 1mo

Jaime leaves with his escorts for KingsLanding. Vargo still wants his sapphires for Brienne‘s ransom. Jaime tells himself he doesn‘t care. then wonders how much Tywin will pay for him- a knight with no hand
He dreams of his family leaving him in a dark cavern with Brienne, confronted by his past
He insists he left something at Harrenhal, they go back, but Brienne is already in the bear pit. He jumps in, defending her &archers take out the bear

majkia And... suddenly Jaimie isn't pure evil. Love it. 2mo
BooksNBowls Jaime and Brienne sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G 😜 2mo

5feet.of.fury @BooksNBowls @majkia 🥰 all he had to do to win me over was take on a bear 1 handed. Haha 2mo
BethM @majkia soooo good. Man I hope he gets a better ending than the show! 2mo
Bklover @BethM I hope so too! 2mo
Bklover Finally back here- my daughter was visiting from Boston so I haven‘t been able to comment. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @Bklover welcome back! 2mo
BethM @Bklover I hope she‘s well! 2mo
Bklover @BethM Thanks Beth! Shes great- starting a new job in Boston so came home for some mama time. Loved every minute. How‘s Wes? Isn‘t he three now? 2mo
BethM @Bklover mama time is the best! Wes is good! Turned 3 in Nov. he‘s a little spitfire and doesn‘t sleep well still, but such a loving kid. And still loves books too :) 2mo
Roary47 @BooksNBowls yes! I think it‘s so cute that he‘s denying his affection for her because he thinks he‘s in love with his sister still. 🐻🤺 2mo

With Brienne in the bathhouse. He tells how he came to be Kingslayer;Tywin had come for war, Aerys was to burn the city &the people to leave nothing for him &orders Jaime to bring him Tywin‘s head
Caught up in the tale, he bangs his stump &passes out Brienne catches him, she‘s strong but gentler than Cersei
Then they appear before Roose Bolton&discuss Jaime‘s fate. Bolton will send him home ..for his own reasons. But Vargo will still want sapphires

Sargar114 This is the turning point for Jaime for me; he starts to be so much more interesting here 2mo
BethM @Sargar114 I‘ve only seen the show but I agree. He better protect Brienne! 2mo
Bklover I agree @Sargar114 - I‘ll be curious to know if there are any big differences. 2mo
BooksNBowls @Sargar114 agreed! He‘s finally over the shock of losing his hand and is now left to question his identity and purpose! Can‘t wait to see how his character develops! 2mo

Jaime‘s hand is cut off &on a cord around his neck. Jaime makes an effort to steal a sword, brandishing it with his left hand, hoping the captors killed him. Brienne talks him through his misery, he decides he‘s more than a sword hand. Brienne isn‘t raped bc Jaime has convinced Vargo Hoat she‘s worth a bag of sapphires. Brienne pleads at Harrenhal, but she‘s missed a lot while they were in the woods. But they are released & injuries seen to

BethM I was really into this chapter and wanted more. I hated how Jamie ended in the show and am hoping for a different track here. 2mo
5feet.of.fury @BethM yes! The show threw so much character development out the window! 2mo

Jaime pesters Brienne as they ride. He thinks of marrying Cersei, &sending Sansa home. They are attacked by bowman, Brienne is injured, Cleos killed. Jaime takes Cleos sword &attacks Brienne. She pulls her punches but he realizes her strength as he is knocked in the river. The Bloody Mummers find them. They are both beaten &Jaime anticipates worse for Brienne. Lord Vargo wants to send the Lannisters a message, Jaime doesn‘t see the arakh coming

BethM I am so worried for Brienne! 3mo
Roary47 Besides the whole incest thing I‘m glad Jaime wants to get Sansa released. Especially, since he was/is imprisoned by Robb. @BethM me too! I‘m hoping she‘s not as hurt as it appears and she can fight her way out with maybe some help from Jaime. 3mo

At an inn they are confronted by a boy with a crossbow who asks “Lion, fish or wolf?” Brienne has silver &they are offered hospitality. Brienne trades 3 gold coins &the skiff for horses, Jaime is agreeable to her plan if only to get out of chains. That night, she asks him why he took the oath only to turn on Aerys. He was to be paired off with Lysa &did it to stay near Cersei. He dreams of how he killed Aerys, who had ordered him to kill Tywin.

HeyT Maybe it's just me but Jaime doesn't seem to be of the same calculation level as Cersei and very much not Tyrion. Like he has no sense of self outside of Cersei. 3mo
Sargar114 @HeyT definitely. Not the long game planner 3mo

BethM @HeyT I agree- at least what we‘ve seen so far. 3mo
5feet.of.fury @HeyT @Sargar114 @BethM agree, very significant decisions that he made very very impulsively. 3mo
BooksNBowls All brawn, no brains 🫢 3mo
Roary47 I agree with everyone. He thinks a lot about how to break out of the now, but then what doesn‘t seem to cross his mind. 3mo
