Zissen Pesach. Chag Pesach kasher vesame'ach.
A boy takes his Bubbe Rosa around Brooklyn and Manhattan as they shop for ingredients for dinner. She struggles with seeing new things in the place of old and her memories flood their conversation. It‘s a short read about a Jewish woman in the city, and I love the glimpses of her when she is young and her interactions with an old baker she‘s known for years.

schmo (shmo) - A hapless sucker, an ordinary jerk.
Slightly pejorative, but it could be worse (e.g., could be putz or schmuck).
What a wonderful book! It‘s like Good Omens meets The Golem and the Jinni, plus labor organizing and gangs… and a whole bunch of queerness. I have a feeling it‘s going to be very difficult to pick a favorite book of my March reads!
I tried to think of other books beyond Jane Eyre, Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, and The Witch of Blackbird Pond (annual treasures growing up) and came up with these three books (series):
1. All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor
2. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
3. The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold
The first is from my childhood; the other two I read as an adult.

I‘m really into this book so far, but finding the wide spacing between lines really annoying! Thankfully I didn‘t cancel my ebook hold when I found it in paper at a different library, so if that hold comes in before I‘ve finished the paper book, I can switch.
