I was curious about this #manbookerinternational longlister but not expecting to like it as much as I did. A mixed race polyamorous woman comes to terms with who she is, the structures and relationships that helped form her, and who she‘d like to be.

5 stars! Vasquez looks at conspiracy theories, focused on 2 assassinations in Colombia. He looks at how historical events continue to affect regular individuals even 100 years later. Long, complicated, intense, and masterfully done. On the Man Booker International shortlist. I need to read more by this author! #intranslation #colombianliterature #mbi2019 #manbookerinternational #5stars

Time flies. I didn‘t read any of the Man Booker International longlist. Now it is already reduced to the shortlist and the two books I have been meaning to read (and bought) aren‘t even among them! Lots of catching up to do, I don‘t know where to start! Any suggestions are welcome! @Simona have you read them all?

#manbooker #manbookerinternational

LeeRHarry I haven't read any of them - me and man booker prize winners have a very checkered past 😏 7y
Simona This year longlist list is very strong, all 13 books are very good, and at the end all depends on your personal taste, likes and dislikes. From short list I would recommend Vernon Subutex and Frankenstein in Baghdad. I read them all, except The World Goes On - I read it a little more than half, realized that I‘m struggling to much and I decided that I will give it another chance if it‘s on the shortlist... 7y
batsy I was really hoping Die, My Love would be included! Ah well, I'll read it anyway. Three of these books will be hard to get my hands on ... But I'm going to try. Which are the two you've bought & are not included? 7y

BarbaraBB @Simona Thank you so much! You‘re really doing good, reading the longlist! 7y
BarbaraBB @batsy Those two. But now I think I‘ll have to add Die My Love too? 7y
batsy And those seem like good ones, too. I enjoyed @Simona 's reviews of those two. 7y
BarbaraBB @batsy Me too, that‘s why I bought them 😀 @Simona 7y
Simona @BarbaraBB @batsy That‘s a lot of pressure ... 😬 7y
BookwormM I am in the same boat but I didn‘t even manage to buy any of them 7y

Yet another one between "like and so-so". I appreciate rough and honest descriptions about friendships, but huge "don't like" for repetitive dynamic between Lenu and Lila through the all four books.

Clever and bitter sweet story about Ludovica (she literally bricks herself) and some others heroes. Their lives and stories eventually collide and intersect in the 'grande finale' in almost comical (satirical) way. Worth to try.

Between like and so so. I liked it, because beauty of the story lies in its simplicity and overall atmosphere- solitude and silence, with poetic description of mountains and nature. So so- because of just interesting read, not special.
